SUMMARY/OBJECTIVE OF ROLE:

 

Anglo Gold Ashanti is seeking a candidate to fill the position of Land Manager. The Land Manager is responsible for the Company’s land portfolio and associated agreements related to land usage, leases and acquisitions, additionally, this role is responsible for access to, acquisition of, maintenance of, and divestiture of land holdings. The Land Manager will work closely with the Environmental Manager, Project Managers, Finance, and Legal to ensure well-coordinated land activities.

 

ACCOUNTABILITIES:

 

  • Claim Acquisition and Due Diligence:   Conducting research to identify prospective mining claims suitable for the project.   This involves evaluating historical mining records and regulatory maps to assess the potential mineral deposits and regulatory status of the claims.
  • Claim Maintenance and Compliance: Managing the ongoing administration and compliance of mining claims throughout the project lifecycle. This involves filing required paperwork, paying claim maintenance fees and adhering to regulatory requirements for exploration, development, and production activities.
  • Negotiation and Acquisition:  Negotiating agreements with claim holders, landowners or government agencies to secure the rights to explore and develop mineral resources.   This may involve lease agreements, purchase contracts or obtaining permits from regulatory authorities to stake new claims.
  • Title Examination and Verification:   Performing thorough title examinations to ensure the validity and integrity of the claims.   This includes review of historical documents, conducting title search and verifying ownership and encumbrances associated with the claims to mitigate legal risks and disputes.
  • Boundary Surveys and Mapping: Overseeing boundary surveys and mapping activities to accurately define the extent and boundaries of the mining claims. This ensures compliance with legal and regulatory requirements and helps prevent boundary disputes with neighboring claim holders or landowners.
  • Stakeholder Engagement and Communication: Establishing and maintaining positive relationships with stakeholders, including landowners, government officials, community members, and industry partners. This involves effective communication, addressing concerns and fostering collaboration to support the project's success while minimizing social and environmental impacts.
  • Risk Management and Legal Support: Identifying and mitigating potential risks associated with claim ownership and land tenure. This includes implementing risk management strategies, obtaining legal counsel when needed and resolving disputes or issues related to claim ownership or access rights.
  • Documentation and Record Keeping: Maintaining accurate records and documentation related to claim ownership, agreements, permits, and regulatory compliance. This includes organizing and managing files, tracking deadlines and preparing reports for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Continuous Improvement and Optimization: Continuously evaluating and optimizing the portfolio of mining claims to maximize the project's value and minimize risks. This may involve strategic acquisitions, relinquishments, or joint ventures to capitalize on emerging opportunities or address changing market conditions.

 

 

EDUCATION & QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as Land Management, Mineral Rights, Geology, Environmental Science, or a related discipline. 
  • Certified Professional Landman (CPL).
  • Proficient in GIS and Mapping skills.

 

 

REQUIRED GENERAL KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE:

 

  • Minimum of 7 years’ experience in a land management role.   
  • Experience working with various DOI agencies.  e.g., BLM, USFS, EPA, local utilities.
  • Knowledge of Local, State, Federal laws and regulations related to mining, land use, mineral and land rights, contracts.
  • Strongly motivated to excel in a face paced environment.
  • Superior attention to detail.

 

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

This is a full-time position.  Days and hours of work are typically Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 5pm. Evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand. As per operational requirements.

COMPENSATION

Base Salary Range $130,000 -$140,000
