OBJECTIVE OF THE ROLE
Provide support to ensure the operation of the Gold Mine is not adversely impacted by emergency issues. Maintain the emergency response program on the Gold Mine site to a standard compatible with international practice and in a timely and cost-effective way.
ROLE ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Develop high level rescue plans for all high-risk work areas to ensure effective response in the event of an emergency.
- Assist the ER Specialist to document and review emergency response procedures in line with regulatory requirements.
- Assist with the coordination of disaster response or crisis management activities.
- Develop and conduct training programs for the Emergency Response Team.
- Ensure Emergency Response Team competency standards are maintained.
- Ensure all operational fire and rescue equipment is inspected and records are maintained.
- Lead and monitor the daily operations of the Emergency Response function including drills and exercises.
- Contribute to site-wide risk assessment studies and react proactively to areas of high risk.
- In conjunction with Site Medical Staff assist with medical evacuations of sick or injured employees.
- Respond to and coordinate any emergency requiring the turn out of the ERT members.
- Attend prestart and toolbox meetings and provide awareness on fire appliance operations and fire safety.
- Recommend necessary rescue and firefighting equipment.
- Prepare weekly and monthly reports.
- Conduct fire and rescue equipment inventory analysis.
- Monitor fire and rescue compliance, especially IMIU requirements.
- Monitor critical controls for major hazard standards including fires surface and underground, ventilation, confined space and working at height.
- Monitor automatic fire suppression systems.
- Organize, allocate resources and audit to meet the compliance mandates of ISO 45001.
- Ensure safe execution of day-to-day activities in relation to ISO 45001 standards including risk assessment and investigations.
- Lead containment operations to prevent hazardous substances from spreading into local air, watercourses and soil.
- Lead the rapid containment, neutralization and clean-up of chemical spills, hydrocarbon leaks or tailing line failures to prevent soil and water contamination.
- Manage and optimize the use of firefighting foams and water during fire emergencies to minimize toxic runoff into local water catchments and rivers.
- Supervise the safe handling, labelling and disposal of contaminated emergency waste, used absorbent materials and damaged hazardous containers post-incident.
- Design and execute specialized emergency drills focusing on environmental disaster scenarios such as major acid spills or fuel farm failures.
ROLE REQUIREMENTS
Education & Qualification
- Relevant qualification in an Emergency Services Discipline at the level of Senior Fire Fighter or equivalent.
- Completion of Secondary School Education.
- Valid Tanzania driving license.
Experience
- Minimum 3 years in mining operation open and underground rescue field.
Knowledge & Skills required
- Physical and mental fitness for work.
- Manual vehicle driving skills.
- Knowledge of The Mining (Safety, Occupational Health and Environment Protection) Regulations, 2010, Part IV Regulation 49 Emergency Preparedness.
