Reporting to the Vice President: Mining, the Director: Open Pit Mining provides tactical and operational support, that delivers maximum value for AngloGold Ashanti’s operating assets and projects in Operations, projects and JVs in Ghana, Guinea, Tanzania, Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Colombia, DRC, Egypt and US in a consistent with the Company’s Vision and Value and Includes all activities related to Open Pit Mining and Strategy.

 

This position requires on-site presence with travel to the operations. Applicants should be prepared for international travel. This is an excellent opportunity for the right candidate to be based in Perth and have the ability to travel and work in Ghana, Guinea, Tanzania, Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Colombia, DRC, Egypt and the US in diverse and challenging operations.


Accountabilities:
 

  •  Provide expert advice and input to the Business Units and other functions.
     
  • Establishing, maintaining and supporting appropriate Open Pit Policy and Standards and subsequent monitoring and reporting of compliance to those standards
    .
  • The development, enhancing and supporting of designated fit-for-purpose mining related planning systems and ensuring the systems are in place and operating effectively with results analysed and reported appropriately.
     
  • Deliver direct technical input, support and expertise to project stage gate reviews and M&A / Due Diligence activities.
     
  • Working closely with the business units, assist in the development of the strategic plans which includes driving a change in thinking and assisting in consolidation.
     
  • Develop, maintain and support global Full Asset Potential (FAP) processes to measure cost and operational performance for OP operations.
     
  • Establish and maintain relationships with external providers of discipline related research programs.
     
  • Direct support to the Mineral Resource and Ore Reserves process.
     
  • Identifying and monitoring progress against budgeted/forecast performance for all OP operations and provide SME support where required to support delivery.
     
  • Provide technical input into mining related contracts as required.


About You

  • A degree qualification in a relevant mining-related discipline or other.
  • At least 15 years relevant experience in the mining industry
  • Sound practical understanding of the entire mining value chain including mining, geotechnical, metallurgy and projects
  • Demonstrated capability in organising work, setting priorities, and exercising sound independent judgement and preparedness to take a well-reasoned stand on matters of importance.
  • Strong track record of practical implementation of analytical tools and analysis.
  • Demonstrated strategic and analytic thinking
  • A capacity in financial decision making and Risk Management
  • Preparedness to undertake extensive business travel
  • Strong interpersonal, influencing and communication skills
  • Worked in an expatriate role and has demonstrated capability and willingness to explore and embrace different cultures
  • Effective interpersonal skills with the ability to liaise with people at all levels within the organisation.
  • The ability to obtain a National Police Clearance.
  • Have existing and ongoing valid Australian working rights (Mandatory).
