The mine is situated in the Lake Victoria Gold fields of Northwestern Tanzania, only about 85 km’s from Mwanza City and 20 km’s Southeast of the nearest point of Lake Victoria. OBJECTIVE OF THE ROLE

 

We are looking for an experienced ERT Specialist to lead and strengthen emergency preparedness and response capabilities. This role ensures effective protection of people, assets, and operations through the development and execution of a robust Emergency Response Program aligned with industry standards.

 

ROLE ACCOUNTABILITIES

 

  • Develop and implement emergency response and rescue plans
  • Coordinate emergency incidents, drills, and crisis management activities
  • Train and maintain competency of Emergency Response Team members
  • Monitor fire, rescue, and safety equipment readiness and compliance
  • Conduct inspections, risk assessments, and safety awareness sessions
  • Support medical evacuations and site-wide emergency coordination
  • Maintain reporting, compliance, and performance monitoring system
  • Lead incident investigations and ensure root cause analysis is conducted with corrective actions implemented
  • Maintain readiness of emergency response facilities, including control rooms and rescue stations
  • Coordinate mutual aid agreements with external emergency services and stakeholders
  • Ensure compliance with legal, regulatory, and company emergency response standards
  • Develop and manage ERT budgets, including equipment and training needs
  • Oversee contractor emergency preparedness and ensure alignment with site standards
  • Support business continuity planning and disaster recovery strategies
  • Monitor and evaluate emergency response performance metrics and KPIs
  • Facilitate simulation exercises for high-risk scenarios (e.g., fire, collapse, hazardous spills)
  • Ensure proper documentation and record-keeping of all emergency drills, incidents, and inspections
  • Provide technical advice on fire protection systems and emergency infrastructure
  • Promote a strong safety culture and continuous improvement within the ERT function
  • Participate in audits and inspections related to emergency preparedness and response
  • Ensure effective communication systems are in place for emergency situations
  • Mentor and coach ERT members to build capability and leadership within the team

 

ROLE REQUIREMENTS

 

Education & Qualification

  • Relevant qualification in an Emergency Services Discipline at the level of Senior Fire Fighter or equivalent
  • The Mining (safety, occupational health and environment protection) regulations, 2010, Part IV – Regulation 49 Emergency Preparedness.
  • Certificate IV training and assessment
  • NOSHC
  • Certificate III in Mine rescue

 

Experience, Knowledge and Skills

  • Minimum 3 years in mining operation open and underground rescue field
  • Firefighting and rescue operations (advanced level)
  • Rope rescue, confined space rescue, and water rescue
  • Use and maintenance of SCBA and firefighting equipment
  • Emergency drill planning and execution
  • Incident reporting, investigation, and documentation
  • Data analysis and reporting (including use of spreadsheets and reporting tools)
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English
  • Computer literacy (MS Office and emergency management systems)
