OBJECTIVE OF THE ROLE
- Provide technical and metallurgical support to help the Process Plant achieve maximum metallurgical efficiency.
- Support plant performance through monitoring, optimization, data analysis, metallurgical test work, and operational improvement initiatives.
- Report to the Engineer 3 - Metallurgical and deputize as required.
ROLE ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Support safe, compliant, and environmentally responsible metallurgical activities in line with company policies and standards.
- Monitor and optimize performance across comminution, gravity separation, leaching, elution, and related processing circuits using metallurgical analysis, process control, and plant reviews.
- Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly metallurgical accounting reports, compile statistical data, and provide recommendations based on trends, mass balances, circuit modelling, and simulations.
- Conduct sampling, plant surveys, instrument calibrations, laboratory test work, ore characterization, and geometallurgical studies to support process improvement.
- Monitor reagent, consumable, water quality, and plant resource usage to support compliance, operational efficiency, and cost control.
- Develop procedures and data sheets, contribute to audits and inspections, and support training and knowledge transfer for graduate metallurgists, technicians, and operators.
ROLE REQUIREMENTS
Education & Qualification
- Bachelor’s degree in Mineral Processing Engineering or Metallurgy and Mineral Processing Engineering.
Experience
- Minimum four years of hands-on experience in mineral processing, preferably in SABC milling circuits and CIL/CIP gold processing operations.
- Experience in metallurgical test work, plant surveys, and process optimization techniques.
Knowledge & Skills
- Knowledge of comminution, classification, leaching, elution, electrowinning, and gravity separation processes.
- Ability to collect, analyze, and interpret metallurgical and plant data to support decision-making and improvement actions.
- Competence in metallurgical accounting, reporting, mass balancing, circuit modelling, and process simulation.
- Understanding of process control loops, plant stability improvement techniques, and laboratory management.
- Ability to monitor reagent and consumable usage and support cost-effective plant performance.
- Proficiency in ore characterization, sampling, test work, and metallurgical instruments.
- Good report writing, communication, collaboration, problem-solving, accountability, and teamwork skills.
