OBJECTIVE OF THE ROLE

 

Produce schedules, production forecasts and budget for the underground mine to meet budget physicals in a manner consistent with the Company's Vision and Values. Support Medium Term Planning and operational execution across short-term, medium-term and long-term planning horizons.

 

ROLE ACCOUNTABILITIES

 

  • Support systems within the Mine Planning Department which deliver mine schedules for execution and maximise the value of the underground orebody.
  • Under direction of the Senior Mining Engineer, deliver physicals schedules for the underground mine with accuracy commensurate with the confidence of the reserve or resource for the full asset life.
  • Comply with, and provide input into, systems for scheduling department work to provide effective planning of work, efficient and safe work practices, and monitoring of work practices.
  • Develop and maintain constructive relationships with colleagues, business partners and other stakeholders, and utilise these relationships to successfully resolve issues when they arise.
  • Develop detailed short-term mine plans based on long-term mine designs and production targets.
  • Design stopes for ore extraction, incorporating ore quality, geotechnical considerations and equipment capabilities.
  • Schedule stoping activities to meet production targets and optimise resource utilisation.
  • Work within budgetary constraints, ensuring that short-term plans are cost-effective and align with financial objectives.
  • Prepare regular reports for management, highlighting key performance indicators and proposing adjustments as necessary.
  • Work closely with geotechnical engineers and long-term mining engineers to incorporate geotechnical considerations and engineering constraints into short-term plans.
  • Provide a safe work environment and comply with SHE&C plans, procedures, management systems and processes within the Mine Planning team.
  • Support strategies to optimise the delivery of mine schedules for execution, including the adoption of innovative equipment, technology and work methods.
  • Deliver the annual physicals budget for the underground mine.
  • Deliver quarterly mining forecasts for the underground mine.
  • Deliver rolling monthly schedules for the underground mine.
  • Review the 7/21 plan on a weekly basis to ensure it is aligned to the monthly schedule.
  • Produce monthly variance reports for mining physicals, including comparison against budget.
  • Proactively communicate threats to budget delivery, including grade, physicals and schedule variances, and plans to ameliorate business impacts.
  • Make a constructive contribution to the entire business unit performance.
  • Comply with all standards, procedures and guidelines for tasks carried out by the Mine Scheduling department and ensure they are document controlled.

 

ROLE REQUIREMENTS

 

Education & Qualification

 

  • Degree in Mining Engineering or relevant discipline.
  • Professional registration with ERB.

 

Experience

 

  • At least 5 years operational experience in an underground mine.
  • Experience in mine planning, underground drill and blast, and underground mine ventilation.
  • Experience in mine design and scheduling software including Deswik, Studio UG, EPS and Vulcan.

 

Knowledge & Skills

 

  • Broad range of technical skills relevant to large scale bulk and semi selective underground mining.
  • Sound understanding of the mining value and risk drivers in the business unit.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Good report writing skills.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Demonstrate behaviours consistent with AngloGold values.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
