OBJECTIVE OF THE ROLE
The purpose of this role is to develop and generate reliable grade control models that enable the accurate design of stopes and stable shapes, ensuring economically mineable ore with minimal dilution. The role also encompasses performing all grade control-related activities across underground projects, including monitoring underground ore tallying for optimal extraction, conducting mine-to-mill reconciliations, and ensuring sufficient grade control drillhole coverage for precise ore zone definition. All activities must be executed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with established work procedures and protocols. The role holder will report directly to the Grade Control Evaluation – Geologist 3.
ROLE ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Lead advanced geostatistical reviews to refine estimation parameters, variogram models, and domain boundaries, ensuring the highest confidence in grade continuity predictions.
- Conduct independent audits of block models, wireframes, and ore envelopes to validate model behaviors against geological reality and production outcomes.
- Oversee implementation of new modelling methodologies (e.g., non‑linear estimation, delustering, conditional simulation) to improve forecast accuracy and risk quantification.
- Champion the integration of multi-disciplinary datasets (geology, structural data, mining, metallurgy, reconciliation) to strengthen model robustness
- Direct the technical oversight of RC and Diamond drilling layouts to maximize orebody definition efficiency and reduce unnecessary drilling cost.
- Evaluate daily drilling performance, sampling quality, and QA/QC outputs, identifying deviations and implementing corrective protocols.
- Develop and maintain an expert‑level understanding of ore flow from stope design to mill feed, intervening when discrepancies threaten reconciliation accuracy.
- Provide technical justification for stope redesigns, re-interpretations, and adjustments to mining plans based on real‑time geological information
- Supervise the integrity of underground geological databases by conducting regular audits, validation checks, and data completeness reviews.
- Collaborate with database administrators to optimize workflows between Fusion (or other DB systems) and modelling platforms.
- Develop and implement advanced QA/QC dashboards to track drilling performance, sampling quality, assay trends, and analytical lab reliability.
- Deliver advanced technical reports that outline geological risks, stope performance, model changes, and production impacts.
- Provide real‑time geological risk assessments for upcoming stopes, highlighting confidence levels, uncertainty factors, and recommended mitigation actions.
ROLE REQUIREMENTS
Education & Qualification
- Bachelor Science in Geology or Bachelor of Applied Science, majoring in Geology
- In exceptional circumstances a Diploma in Geology/Earth science may be acceptable, backed up by considerable operational experience (5 – 8 years).
Experience, Knowledge and Skills
- 5+ years’ geology experience in the mining industry preferably Underground environment
- 2+ years in Geological (3D/2D) interpretation and modelling/estimation
- Fusion Database knowledge
- QAQC analysis knowledge
- Proficient with Datamine, Leapfrog, Supervisor and/or MP3 software
- Intermediate Ms Office skills (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint
- Demonstrable understanding of and capability in non-linear estimation methods with gold.
- Demonstrate understanding of QAQC best practices and reporting.
- Recognition and identification of geologic and mineralogic characteristics of gold systems.
- Well-developed Geological core logging & underground development mapping skills
