OBJECTIVE OF THE ROLE
Design project-based exploration work plans and programs, monitor their implementation, and undertake technical interpretation and geological modelling. Perform regular geological data integration for target consolidation, ranking and evaluation within and outside GGM concessions effectively and efficiently as directed by management. Ensure availability of resources to execute assigned tasks, coordinate the duties of subordinates and any casual or temporary labour assigned, and provide regular feedback and work reports to Geologist 3 - Exploration or the Exploration Superintendent to support resource additions and resource conversions to reserves.
ROLE ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Demonstrate a good understanding of the exploration process map which defines the hazards and risks associated with exploration work programs.
- Supervise and drive the implementation of departmental safety operating procedures and checklists and review them according to work conditions and requirements.
- Apply skills required to motivate and drive safety performance within the exploration team and the Geology Department to ensure compliance with departmental safety KPIs.
- Demonstrate work behaviours consistent with the company Safety Visions and Values and work within prescribed boundaries.
- Promptly report all injuries, illnesses and incidents.
- Coordinate the duties of junior geologists and field teams to ensure maximum utilisation of resources within the framework of exploration work programs.
- Develop short-term exploration work programs that form the basis of the annual exploration budget and design execution plans to maximise geological knowledge and deliver project goals.
- Supervise the execution of reconnaissance and resource conversion drilling programs within project areas as approved and directed by the Exploration Manager or MoR.
- Analyse and interpret geological data to produce 3D geological models to define targets, plan further follow-up work and support the resource modelling process.
- Undertake detailed geological mapping, logging, sampling and data quality checks to support delivery of the objectives defined in the Annual Exploration Strategies.
- Prepare and submit exploration reports highlighting results obtained from ongoing work programs and the way forward.
- Develop and improve the skills and knowledge of subordinates through training, mentoring and coaching.
- Conduct weekly performance meetings with drilling contractors and monitor their performance and quality of service provided.
- Track and monitor daily and weekly exploration drilling costs associated with assigned projects and provide timely feedback to the Exploration Manager.
- Complete personal performance appraisal and those of direct reportees and submit for review and equilibration within the defined timeframe.
ROLE REQUIREMENTS
Education & Qualification
- Bachelor of Science in Geology, Advanced Diploma or higher.
Experience
- 3 to 5 years’ working experience in mineral exploration, especially gold exploration across various geological environments.
Knowledge & Skills
- Understanding of the Tanzanian Mining Act 2010 as amended in 2017.
- Understanding of ISO45001:2018 and ISO14001:2015.
- Competence in computer-aided software such as ArcGIS, Datamine or Leapfrog.
- Good knowledge of geological data interpretation and 3D geological modelling.
- Good knowledge of exploration methodologies based on current technologies.
- Good understanding of mineralisation systems within the Greenstone Belt to guide the exploration process.
- Ability to develop and improve the skills and knowledge of subordinates through training, mentoring or coaching.
