OBJECTIVE OF THE ROLE

Implement daily exploration work programs by collecting, plotting and interpreting geological data from various exploration projects as assigned by the immediate supervisor or manager. Perform surface geological mapping, open pit and underground face mapping, drilling and logging, sampling, and arrangement of sample sheets for submission to the laboratory. Supervise direct reports and provide daily and weekly feedback on work progress and results.

ROLE ACCOUNTABILITIES

• Ensure HSE compliance when conducting geology works and support the implementation of work procedures, resource and PPE availability, pre-start toolbox talks, and safety meetings at the workplace.
• Conduct geological mapping and sampling exercises as directed by the geologist in charge of the project while adhering to standard operating procedures.
• Implement exploration drilling programs as directed by the geologist in charge of the project and ensure compliance to work practices.
• Reconcile sample recoveries and qualities and ensure drill cores are well oriented before commencing the marking exercise.
• Monitor and reconcile downhole surveys and immediately report any deviations from plan for timely decision making.
• Ensure the drill rig is well aligned according to the drilling parameters proposed on the drill plan.
• Ensure RC samples are collected and labelled on site and identify and rectify errors generated during sampling according to sampling and QAQC protocols.
• Ensure all samples are collected from drill sites and handed over to the exploration core yard for further processing and submission to the laboratory.
• Monitor the work of drilling supervisors and ensure all sampling consumables are available on drill rigs, accurately labelled, and that sample bags and sample sheets meet QAQC Sampling Protocol requirements.
• Supervise housekeeping at work sites and maintain good work practices as per standard operating procedures.
• Maintain good supervision and working relationships with drilling contractors.

ROLE REQUIREMENTS

Education & Qualification

• Bachelor’s degree in Geology or a geoscience related field from a recognized institution.

Experience

• At least two years of experience in exploration and mining.

Knowledge & Skills

• Understanding of ISO45001:2018 and ISO14001:2015.
• Geological mapping skills.
• Competence in computer-aided software such as GIS, Datamine, or Leapfrog.
• Ability to supervise exploration drilling programs.
