ABOUT GEITA GOLD MINING LTD

Geita Gold Mining Ltd (GGML) is Tanzania’s leading gold producer with a single operation in Geita Region. The company is a subsidiary of AngloGold Ashanti, an international gold producer headquartered in South Africa, with operations in more than ten countries, in four continents. The mine is situated in the Lake Victoria Gold fields of Northwestern Tanzania, only about 85 km’s from Mwanza City and 20 km’s Southeast of the nearest point of Lake Victoria. OBJECTIVE OF THE ROLE

The overall purpose of the role of Technician 1 – Exploration Technical within the Exploration Section is to provide field supervision on drill pads and access roads preparation for exploration drilling and other excavations related to exploration activities. The role holder will be required to plan, and conduct rehabilitation works on completed drill sites for environmental compliance. Critically, the incumbent will also be required to spot and mark the localities with suitable rock exposures for surface geological mapping and will assist the geologists to conduct field geological mapping to provide additional geological information to be used to review and refine the drill plans. The role holder will report to Technician 2 – Exploration-Technical and will collaborate with exploration teams above and below this role.

ROLE ACCOUNTABILITIES

• Comply with HSE standards by conducting toolbox meetings at places of work and ensure the tasks are conducted according to work procedures and standards.
• Will implement the HSE requirements at work by involving the teams on identifying the hazards at places of work and ensure the control measures are at place.
• Will be part of the stakeholders required to conduct Area Risk Assessment or JSA and ensure the actions have been closed before commencing drill pads/access roads preparation.
• Will ensure 100% compliance on Steep Terrain procedure and its implementation as per requirement.
• Will collect the work plan from the project geologist and locate the positions of the planned holes on the ground using the handheld GPS and advise on the required changes based on the nature of the terrain or other constraints.
• Will discuss with the geologist in charge of the project on the nature of the terrain and provide the proposed traverse that minimises the risks.
• Will provide field information to the project geologist regarding the land disturbance to assist on initiating the process for requesting the Permit to Clear.
• Will provide the coordinates for the areas with good rock exposures for field mapping and assist the geologists to access and map those areas for additional geological information.
• Will liaison with Mining Technical (site survey section) to ensure the hole positions have been precisely located and final collars have also been picked immediately after completion of the drillhole.
• Will ensure the dozer operator works with a spotter and will confirm availability of means of communication.
• Will ensure the site ERT is aware of the area and access roads leading to the workplace.
•  Will monitor the daily availability and performance of the dozers and inform the project geologist on the challenges that may lead to work delays or standby. 

ROLE REQUIREMENTS

Education & Qualification

• Diploma in Geology or Geoscience related fields.
• Equivalent field experience on the same field for Secondary School Certificate Holders.

Experience, Knowledge and Skills

• Minimum of 2 – 3 years of working experience for Diploma Holders.
• Secondary School Holders – 3 - 5 years working experience in exploration drilling environments, field mapping, Drill pads preparation and environmental rehab work
• Good experience in exploration drilling operations, requirements for drill pads preparation & rehab.
• Driving experience with valid Tanzanian driving license
• Proficient on verbal and written communication skills.
• Computer literacy (MS excel & MS world).
• Good understanding and strong commitment to HSE practices and operational standards.
• Able to co-ordinate and lead small teams at workplace
