OBJECTIVE OF THE ROLE

 

  • Execute mechanical works safely and responsibly within LME, including preventive maintenance, repairs, and breakdown recovery for LME mobile and stationary equipment.
  • Perform maintenance primarily in the light vehicle section under the supervision of the Light Vehicle Supervisor and Senior Supervisor.
  • Support the maintenance team to meet required standards and client demand across light vehicles, light trucks, auxiliary, and underground equipment as assigned.

 

ROLE ACCOUNTABILITIES

 

  • Observe all HSE policies and procedures relevant to the job, conduct mini risk assessments before work, and utilize required permits.
  • Use correct tooling at all times; tag out and report any unsafe equipment immediately.
  • Report all incidents immediately and participate in investigations and remediation; maintain good housekeeping and care for assigned PPE.
  • Carry out routine inspection, maintenance, and repair of LME equipment with a primary focus on panel beating, body repair, welding, and fabrication.
  • Execute planned and unplanned maintenance tasks for light vehicles accurately and on time; troubleshoot faults and complete repairs as needed.
  • Report any lost or damaged tooling and any attempted theft observed in the workshop.
  • Adhere to all work procedures established in the LME section and company-wide; ensure you have read, understood, and acknowledged all communications and procedures.
  • Complete assigned tasks per shift to OEM standards; provide timely disclosure to the manager where accountabilities cannot be met or can be met with fewer resources.
  • Provide early warning to the Senior Supervisor if unable to complete assigned tasks to the correct standard within the allowed time; request assistance when unsure.
  • Perform preventive and predictive maintenance on light vehicles to a high standard to meet client demand.
  • Demonstrate a high level of integrity and abide by company values, clearly communicate the Safety value, and follow through on safety improvement actions.
  • Ensure work is planned, adequately resourced, and hazards are identified and controlled; be an example and promote openness, trust, fair treatment, and mutual respect.

 

ROLE REQUIREMENTS

 

Education & Qualification

 

  • Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (CSEE).
  • VETA Trade Test Certificate Grade One/Level Three in Mechanic.
  • Full Technician Certificate (FTC) in Mechanical Engineering.

 

Experience

 

  • At least 5 years of experience in maintenance of light vehicles, preferably Toyota Land Cruiser models, and able to work in a mining environment.
  • Ability in troubleshooting Toyota Land Cruiser and other light vehicle model problems.
  • Knowledge and procedures for the repairs and maintenance of all HME/LME mining equipment.
  • Knowledge on 1HZ, 2KD, 1KD, and VDJ 200 engine overhaul, valve setting, and timing.
  • Apply skills and knowledge on component change-out on light vehicles.
  • Sound knowledge of Health, Safety and Environmental issues and procedures.
  • Certificate of service demonstrating experience in panel beating, body repair, welding, and fabrication of LME equipment.

 

Knowledge & Skills

 

  • Physically and mentally fit and hard working.
  • Able to work with minimum supervision.
  • Good communication skills and commitment to deliver.
  • Ability to work under pressure.
  • Good Microsoft skills.
  • Driving competency with a valid Tanzanian license and ability to drive in the mining environment.
  • Ability to read and understand maintenance manuals and keep daily logs/records; knowledge of record keeping.
  • Time management skills.
  • Knowledge of procedures for repairs and maintenance of a wide range of mobile and stationary equipment.
  • Knowledge of preventive and predictive maintenance schedules and programs for mobile and stationary equipment.
  • Ability to repair and maintain a wide range of mobile and stationary equipment.
