Geita Gold Mining Ltd (GGML) is Tanzania’s leading gold producer with a single operation in Geita Region. The company is a subsidiary of AngloGold Ashanti, an international gold producer headquartered in South Africa, with operations in more than ten countries, in four continents. The mine is situated in the Lake Victoria Gold fields of Northwestern Tanzania, only about 85 km’s from Mwanza City and 20 km’s Southeast of the nearest point of Lake Victoria. The company has its head office in Geita, only 5 Km’s west of the fast-growing town of Geita, and also a supporting office in Dar es Salaam. OBJECTIVE OF THE ROLE
Execute underground mining infrastructure maintenance safely and responsibly, including preventive, planned, breakdown, and installation work within the Underground Engineering department.
ROLE ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Adhere to HSE regulations, assess and control risks, and report and act on unsafe conditions.
- Perform mechanical inspections, repairs, and maintenance on underground equipment per work instructions and OEM requirements.
- Diagnose faults and complete planned and unplanned breakdown repairs to minimize downtime.
- Comply with legislation, codes, and AGA/GGM standards and participate in audits as required.
- Communicate promptly with supervisors, report tooling issues, and complete Take 5 risk assessments.
- Support scheduling, meet delivery deadlines, and contribute improvement ideas while maintaining timekeeping and discipline.
ROLE REQUIREMENTS
Education & Qualification
- Form IV Secondary Education with VETA Qualification Grade I/Level Three
- Diploma/Full Technician Certificate (FTC) in Mechanical Engineering
- Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering is an added advantage
Experience
- Minimum 2 years in manufacturing, mining, or a related industry with experience on centrifugal pumps, submersible pumps, mono pumps (oil, slurry and water), gearboxes, fans, pump stations, and compressors
Knowledge & Skills
- Physically and mentally fit; hard-working with basic trade skills
- Ability to read, understand, and use plant technical manuals
- Strong teamwork, leadership, and problem-solving capabilities
- Able to work under pressure with minimal supervision
- Specialized equipment training as required
- Computer literacy with proficiency in Microsoft Office/basic computer skills
- Valid Tanzania Driving Licence Class D and above is an added advantage
