We currently have an exciting new venture, where we seek a HSECS Specialist to join the Global Greenfields Explorations (GFX) business unit. The role holds accountability for health, safety, environment, community and security disciplines, with a strong focus on safety and wellbeing.
Reporting to the Senior Sustainability Specialist, the role purpose is to ensure consistent application of HSECS standards, provides technical guidance, and builds capability across the global GFX team portfolio. The core orientation of this role is outward facing to the regions, with a strong focus on applying health and safety expertise into field programs and supporting the regional teams to align to GFX global sustainability systems. GFX processes, workflows and systems are also included within the responsibility of this role. The timeframe of focus for this role is 6-12 months looking ahead.
Based in Perth, this a permanent opportunity that operates on a 5/2 roster with international travel when required.
Accountabilities:
- Provide professional sustainability systems support to the GFX teams globally, providing services and advice to management, assisting them in implementing the short to medium-term exploration strategy.
- Support identification and management of risks and resolution of emerging issues and/or escalating issues.
- Support and implement an appropriate internal audit and review process for the critical risks associated with contractors and GFX field programs.
- Monitor activity and quality of critical risk management activities and escalate issues as required.
- Provide required reporting requirements on sustainability related activities, issues and performance against plan.
- Monitor and recommend improvements to enhance the effectiveness of the sustainability management system, requisite behaviours and practices.
- Identify and execute initiatives to support continuous improvement.
- Maintain incident response and investigation systems including action management assurance. Drive the quality of the investigations to drive a reduction in preventing reoccurrence.
- Review incident data, conduct analysis and identify trends, issues and opportunities to improve safety performance across the regions.
- Review effectiveness of sustainability and ESG initiatives and provide a suitable feedback loop to GFX management.
About You:

- A tertiary qualification in a Safety and Health related field or other relevant / complementary qualifications.
- Several years of experience in safety in mining, preferably with exposure to Greenfields Exploration activities. Additional exposure to health, environment, community and security would be well regarded.
- Practical baseline knowledge of exploration and mining including drilling operations, field activities, aviation and logistics, integrated management systems, and risk management. This includes specifically incident investigation, emergency management, and contractor HSECS management expertise.
- Display flexibility with regard to challenging tasks and assignment of priorities.
- Demonstrated and influential leadership in the management of safety, health, environment, security, cultural heritage, and stakeholder engagement.
- Sound cross-cultural and cross-functional communication skills.
- A willingness to work with a culturally diverse team base.
- Adhering and standing by our core values with a number one focus on safety.
- Proficient with Microsoft office suite, SharePoint, database management, risk assessment, incident management, emergency preparedness.
- Medically fit to work in remote locations and adherence to vaccinations in line with relevant risk profiles and adhere to annual travel medical reviews.
- Australian working rights and a current passport holder.
