Director, Risk Business Partner – Africa Region

About The Role

We are looking for an experienced Risk Manager to partner with our Africa region operations and Group Functions to strengthen risk management across the business. In this role, you will help identify and assess key risks, ensure effective controls are in place, and support the organisation in making informed decisions that protect value and enable long-term success. You’ll work across a wide variety of mining-related risk areas—operational, financial, strategic and sustainability—while engaging with stakeholders at all levels of the organisation. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who can build strong relationships, challenge constructively, and bring clarity and insight to complex risk landscapes.

Key Responsibilities

• Identify, assess and support the management of strategic, operational and emerging risks across the Africa region.
• Partner with regional operations and Group Functions to strengthen risk controls and drive continuous improvement.
• Facilitate accurate and meaningful risk reporting, ensuring key risks are elevated to the appropriate level.
• Build capability across the business by working closely with risk champions and practitioners.
• Support governance, planning and assurance activities through high-quality risk insights and data.

Qualifications & Experience

• Degree in a relevant discipline (e.g., finance, engineering, science, social sciences).
• A formal risk management qualification is desirable but not essential where capability is demonstrated through extensive practical application.
• Ability to engage credibly across the full spectrum of mining-related risks (operational, financial, strategic, sustainability) and influence effectively at all levels of the organisation.
• Advanced knowledge and practical application of risk management processes and techniques.
• Significant experience operating within the African context, with an understanding of national, regional, and cultural differences and their impact on risk and decision-making.
