Senior Specialist, Metallurgy
Role Overview
Our African operations need strong, practical technical backing to keep their plants performing. As our Senior Specialist, Metallurgy you will be the go-to expert supporting the Director of Metallurgy for Africa. You will advise our operations, help shape growth projects and work with partners who push the industry forward. When other regions need specialist skills, you will step in. If you want a visible role that gives your metallurgy expertise room to grow, this is a great fit.
Your work will cover day-to-day plant support, growth projects and asset improvement opportunities, so no two weeks will look the same. You will be part of a technical team that shares ideas and holds high standards.
You will report to the Director of Metallurgy for Africa and work with general managers and business unit leaders, so your advice will be heard where decisions are made. It is a role for someone who enjoys both the science and the business side of mining.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide metallurgical technical services to our African operations, supporting the Director of Metallurgy.
- Give expert advice and input to business units and other functions.
- Support growth projects in Africa with specialist technical input.
- Contribute expert ideas to asset improvement opportunities, from first idea to delivery.
- Provide cross-regional support wherever specialist skills are needed.
- Build and keep strong links with vendors, equipment makers, universities and research institutions.
- Work as an active member of the technical team, sharing knowledge with peers.
- Model and promote safe working, and support incident investigations when needed.
- Support capital and growth project teams with expert input on process options.
- Help sites capture more value through asset improvement work, from first idea to delivery.
- Share your specialist skills across regions when other teams need them.
Required Qualifications
- A degree in metallurgical engineering, process engineering, chemical engineering or a related field.
- At least 8 years of relevant experience in the mining industry.
- A sound practical understanding of the full mining value chain, including geology, mining, geotechnical, metallurgy, engineering, tailings and projects.
- Willingness to travel extensively on business.
- Advantageous: a strong background in production and management, and a track record in business improvement and change management.

- Strong metallurgical knowledge and the ability to turn it into practical advice for sites.

Work Environment and Expectations
- You will work with mine sites and projects across Africa, with extensive business travel.
- Mine sites and plants are safety-sensitive environments. You will model our safety values and follow site rules at all times.
- You will report to the Director of Metallurgy for Africa and have no direct reports.
- You will work with industry bodies, universities and equipment suppliers to bring new ideas into the business.
- You will work with general managers, business unit leaders and the wider technical team.
