OBJECTIVE OF THE ROLE
The role provides technical support for the construction and delivery of BU Mineral Resource models in accordance with AGA standards and guidelines. The role requires periodic travel to the operations to provide technical support and training onsite.
ROLE ACCOUNTABILITIES
Safety Accountabilities
- Demonstrate behaviour that is consistent with the AGA safety vision and values
- Contribute towards the implementation of the AGA safety standards within BU
- Develop, drive and maintain processes to provide a safe workplace to all employees and external service providers undertaking work within your area of accountability
- Assist in the identification of safety risks and resolve emerging issues, escalating issues, and safety risks that impact the business.
Primary Accountabilities
- Build and construct geological models fit for Mineral Resource evaluation, assimilating and incorporating the latest geoscientific knowledge about each deposit under consideration.
- Construct and deliver Mineral Resource and Grade Control models, including compilation of integrated planning models for input into mine planning.
- To ensure Africa BU Mineral Resource models are produced timeously to a high standard, in accordance with AGA standards and guidelines.
- Where necessary, assist sites with tasks comprising the Mineral Resource evaluation process, to enable timeous completion of Mineral Resource models and reporting thereof.
Evaluation Guidelines, Processes, and Systems Accountabilities
- Provide technical specialist support to the BU operations on application of evaluation methodologies, systems, and processes.
- Provide support and training on implementation of evaluation guidelines with the input from the BU in accordance with the relevant standards.
- Provide support to monitor the correctness of the application and execution of the evaluation systems (structure, processes, people) that are being used by the operations within the BU.
Specialist Technical Advice and Support Accountabilities
- Provide technical specialist support and advice on BU Mineral Resource models.
- Involvement in projects and studies requiring technical input on Resource estimation.
- Provide training, coaching and mentoring to the site-based geology teams to lift the geoscientific skills and knowledge within the BU.
- Assist the BU operations in reporting of Mineral Resource models’ construction, performance and reconciliation.
- Perform peer-review of BU Mineral Resource models and provide detailed reports on findings to stakeholders as required.
- Adhere to a framework in which all Mineral Resource models get archived into applicable repositories, as required for storage, use in EOY reporting and compliance, mine planning and auditing purposes.
- Conducting testing of algorithms and features developed by the specialised geoscientific software providers and reporting on results, to help steer the development of necessary functionalities.
Risk Management Accountabilities
- Provide reports that identify risks, opportunities and liabilities associated with the BU Mineral Resource models.
Working Relationships Accountabilities
- As the role holder you are required to work collaboratively with your peers across the BU, including BU operations’ Mineral Resource Evaluation teams and larger Geology departments (e.g. Mining Geology, Exploration, Geomet)

ROLE REQUIREMENTS
Education & Qualification
- A graduate degree in Geology and a qualification in Geostatistics or Mineral Resource Evaluation.
- Registration with a recognised professional body as required for international Mineral Resource reporting codes (SACNASP, JORC, S-K 1300).
- Post-graduate degree in Geostatistics or Mineral Resource Evaluation (desirable)
Experience
- At least 8 years relevant experience in Mineral Resource Management (MRM), out of which 3 years in hands-on Mineral Resource evaluation of stratigraphically and structurally controlled metalliferous deposits with complex structural controls.
- 5 years in operational geology (Desirable)
- Minimum of 3 years of geological modelling and Mineral Resource evaluation experience in different types of gold deposits
Knowledge & Skills
- Geological interpretation - Ability to apply geological understanding to Mineral Resource estimation.
- Geological modelling - Demonstrated proficiency in geological interpretation and modelling in Leapfrog Geo software.
- Resource estimation - Demonstrated proficiency using Datamine and Isatis for geostatistical analysis and Mineral Resource estimation, specifically with demonstrated experience in linear and non-linear techniques of Mineral Resource estimation.
- Geological risk - Ability to identify and quantify geological risk in resource models.
- Exploration - Understanding of brownfield exploration processes and mineral resource classification.
- Mine geology - Understanding of open pit and underground mine geology processes, including mapping, sampling, grade control and reconciliation processes.
- Data management / QAQC - Understanding of drilling, sampling and assaying QAQC protocols and analysis, and their importance in the resource estimation process.
- Reports - Report writing skills, including update of reports documenting Mineral Resource modelling processes, such as Mineral Resource Estimation Documents (MRED) and annual reporting of Mineral Resource numbers.
