OBJECTIVE OF THE ROLE

AngloGold Ashanti is seeking a Specialist: Spatial Data Technology to lead and govern our enterprise GIS capability while advancing innovative Virtual Reality (VR) applications across the business.

This role will drive the development, governance, and optimisation of spatial data systems, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and business value. You will act as the GIS subject matter expert, support cross-functional initiatives, and maintain immersive VR environments that enhance operational, safety, and stakeholder engagement outcomes.

ROLE ACCOUNTABILITIES

• Own and govern enterprise GIS platforms (Esri suite)
• Establish spatial data standards, frameworks, and best practices
• Provide GIS expertise and cross-functional project support
• Integrate diverse geospatial data sources (GIS, CAD, LiDAR, drone imagery, etc.)
• Support and enhance VR environments and immersive experiences
• Manage vendor relationships and budget oversight

ROLE REQUIREMENTS

Education & Qualification

• Bachelor’s degree in IT, GIS, Geology, Mine Engineering, or related field

Experience

• 5+ years geospatial experience with advanced Esri GIS expertise
• Project management experience delivering spatial solutions
• Python skills for automation and geospatial analysis
• Mining industry experience preferred
• Experience with FME and immersive technologies advantageous

Knowledge & Skills

• Advanced expertise in Esri GIS Enterprise suite
• Strong understanding of spatial data governance, standards, and compliance
• Proficiency in Python for automation, geospatial analysis, and database management
• Knowledge of integrating GIS, CAD, photogrammetry, drone imagery, and LiDAR
