OBJECTIVE OF THE ROLE
- Deliver high-level technical support across operational mine geology and support the continuous improvement of grade control, geological modelling, orebody interpretation, and short- to medium-term mine planning.
- Support production and reconciliation tracking and ensure geological information is effectively integrated into day-to-day mining decisions to optimise ore extraction, minimise geological risk, and uphold best-practice standards.
ROLE ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Support safe work practices and contribute to a culture where safety is the first value, including assistance with incident and accident investigations where required.
- Manage and improve grade control systems, drilling, sampling, assaying, ore delineation, and geological data QA/QC to maximise recovery and minimise dilution.
- Provide geological interpretation and modelling support, including structural geology application, 3D geological modelling, geostatistics, and geological inputs into mine plans and production schedules.
- Support operational mine geology activities across open pit and underground environments, including orebody identification, blast movement monitoring, and management of overbreak and underbreak.
- Monitor ore production tracking, stockpile management, end-of-month surveying, mine-to-mill reconciliation, variance analysis, and geological risk management.
- Apply technical standards, support audits and reviews, collaborate across operational and technical teams, and mentor geology teams to strengthen capability and compliance.
ROLE REQUIREMENTS
Education & Qualification
- Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Geological Engineering, Earth Sciences, or a related discipline.
- Postgraduate qualification such as Honours, MSc, or PhD in Economic Geology, Mining Geology, or a related field is highly desirable.
- Relevant training in mine geology, resource estimation, geostatistics, or mineral resource management is highly desirable.
- Membership of a recognised professional body such as AusIMM, AIG, or SME is preferred.
Experience, Knowledge and Skills
- 7-10 years’ experience in operational mine geology within open pit and underground gold mining environments.
- Demonstrated experience in grade control, ore-waste delineation, geological mapping, logging, and short- to medium-term geological modelling.
- Proven experience in geological interpretation, reconciliation analysis, and improving orebody knowledge and production performance.
- Experience integrating mine geology with mine planning, drill and blast, survey, and processing teams.
- Experience implementing and maintaining QA/QC systems, geological databases, and sampling and assay protocols.
- Experience participating in or leading technical reviews, audits, and compliance processes aligned with corporate technical governance.
- Exposure to multi-site or regional roles is desirable, preferably within Africa or similar large-scale gold operations.
- Advanced competence in orebody identification, geological mapping, logging, and structural interpretation.
- Strong capability in ore-waste boundary definition, grade control modelling, and optimisation of drilling and sampling strategies.
- Strong understanding of grade control systems, sampling theory, sample QA/QC, assay protocols, and geological database integrity.
- High proficiency with 3D geological modelling software such as Datamine, Leapfrog, and Vulcan.
- Competence in geostatistical methods, variography, estimation workflows, and linking grade control and resource models.
- Strong capability in mine-to-mill reconciliation, variance identification, corrective action planning, and preparation of technical reports and decision-support documentation.
- Ability to identify and communicate geological risk, support integrated planning, and work effectively across cross-functional teams.
- Strong communication, collaboration, problem-solving, initiative, and continuous improvement capability.
