AngloGold Ashanti (Ghana) Limited, Obuasi Gold Mine is currently near completion of the redevelopment phase to become a modern, efficient and long-term profitable operation. The underground mining operation has been fully mechanized and designed to produce up to an average maximum of 5,000 t/day of ore mined.

OBJECTIVE OF THE ROLE
The Engineer, Scheduling contributes to the development and delivery of integrated mine schedules that align operational activities with short- to medium-term planning objectives. The role implements daily, weekly, and 12‑week scheduling processes within designated mining block(s), ensuring schedules reflect approved designs, planning assumptions, and production targets.
Through the consistent application of standardized scheduling practices, the role supports operational execution, performance monitoring, and compliance tracking. The position also plays a key role in building scheduling capability through mentoring and engagement with technical and operational teams. Mining block assignments are defined by the Manager – Short Term Planning and Scheduling in accordance with the Life of Mine Plan.
ROLE ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Demonstrate and uphold AngloGold Ashanti values in all decisions, actions, and professional conduct.
- Allocate a minimum of 30% of time to actively support compliance with site safety requirements and contribute to a culture of zero harm across all activities.
- Allocate a minimum of 30% of time underground within assigned block groups to validate scheduling assumptions, confirm activity sequencing, and ensure schedules reflect actual operational constraints and field conditions.
- Contribute to the professional development of scheduling engineers through mentoring, constructive feedback, and structured on the job training.
- Ensure cross functional inputs are incorporated into scheduling deliverables, and regularly validate scheduling assumptions, activity durations, and operational constraints.
- Support the use and maintenance of scheduling tools and reporting systems to ensure reliability, visibility, and schedule integrity.
- Develop and maintain the short term and rolling three-month schedule (3MS) for assigned work areas, ensuring activities are logically sequenced, executable, and aligned with weekly execution plans and approved medium term forecasts.
- Support the preparation and update of the rolling 18-month schedule for assigned block groups at the start of each quarter, incorporating updated mine designs, operational constraints, infrastructure requirements, and current physical progress.
- Coordinate with production, engineering, and technical teams to integrate activity logic, operational constraints, and infrastructure dependencies into the schedule.
- Maintain and update Deswik schedules and dependencies in line with approved mine designs, sequencing requirements, and operational priorities.
- Prepare and issue integrated schedules including commentary, visual outputs, and milestone tracking to support weekly planning forums.
- Monitor planned versus actual compliance, physical performance, and schedule execution, providing timely variance commentary and escalation where required.
- Contribute to scheduling related improvement initiatives that enhance schedule compliance, performance tracking, and alignment across short term, medium term, and Life of Mine planning horizons.
ROLE REQUIREMENTS
Education & Qualification
- Tertiary qualification in Mining Engineering or related discipline
- Training or exposure to mine scheduling software (e.g. Deswik) – required
- Mine Rescue and Shift Boss Certificate of Competency from the Minerals Commission of Ghana (MINCOM)
Legal Requirement
- Valid driver’s license
Experience
- Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in underground mining operations
- At least one (1) year experience in short‑term planning or scheduling in an underground environment
- Demonstrated knowledge of short‑ and medium‑term scheduling principles
- Ability to interpret geological and planning inputs to generate executable schedules
- Exposure to multidisciplinary planning environments is advantageous
Knowledge & Skills
Technical Competencies
- Proficiency in Mine planning and scheduling software (preferably Deswik or equivalent)
- Strong Excel and data interpretation skills
- Effective communication and collaboration with technical and operational teams
Functional Requirements
- Ability to work underground, including travel between work areas
- Capable of extended computer-based work in an office environment
- Physically fit to meet site medical and functional capacity requirements
