AngloGold Ashanti (Ghana) Limited, Obuasi Gold Mine is currently near completion of the redevelopment phase to become a modern, efficient and long-term profitable operation. The underground mining operation has been fully mechanized and designed to produce up to an average maximum of 5,000 t/day of ore mined.

OBJECTIVE OF THE ROLE

 

The Manager – Short Term Planning & Scheduling leads the development and implementation of mine scheduling processes across short‑ to medium‑term horizons, with accountability for detailed short‑term and rolling three‑month schedules.

The role ensures that mine schedules support aligned operational priorities and planning requirements, providing integrated inputs into business planning, performance monitoring, and compliance tracking. The role contributes to the development of operating schedules and variance assessments and supports the consistent application of scheduling standards, documentation, and improvement initiatives.

The role also contributes to capability development through mentoring and training of scheduling personnel, while maintaining effective engagement across operations to ensure schedule deliverables are timely, executable, and aligned with operational objectives

 

ROLE ACCOUNTABILITIES

 

  • Demonstrate and uphold AngloGold Ashanti values in all decisions, actions, and professional conduct.
  • Allocate a minimum of 30% of time to supporting compliance with site safety requirements and contributing to a culture of zero harm across all activities.
  • Provide mentoring, technical guidance, and performance feedback to Scheduling Engineers and junior team members to support capability development and knowledge transfer.
  • Support the implementation and application of scheduling standards, procedures, and compliance expectations across the site.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of scheduling systems, tools, processes, and planning integration with operations and technical services.
  • Coordinate with operational and technical teams to ensure timely development of integrated schedules and incorporation of operational inputs.
  • Develop and maintain integrated short‑term and rolling 12‑week schedules, ensuring activities reflect execution readiness, operational priorities, and approved planning inputs.
  • Ensure alignment between short‑term schedules and medium‑term forecasts, maintaining consistency of milestones, activity logic, and infrastructure dependencies.
  • Validate schedule assumptions, activity durations, operational constraints, and sequencing logic to support realistic and executable schedules.
  • Monitor schedule performance, physical progress, compliance, and planned versus actual trends, identifying schedule risks or deviations.
  • Provide schedule variance analysis and commentary to support operational reporting and planning discussions.
  • Prepare and present integrated schedules and supporting reports for weekly and monthly planning forums.
  • Support the development and use of performance tracking tools and reporting systems to improve schedule visibility, compliance monitoring, and accountability.
  • Contribute to MOS planning forums and reporting activities, ensuring alignment with site reporting standards and planning timelines.

 

 

ROLE REQUIREMENTS

 

Education & Qualifications

  • Tertiary qualification in Mining Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Advanced training in Mine planning software (e.g. Deswik) is desirable.
  • Possession of a recognized professional First Aid Certificate and a MINCOM Shift Boss or higher Certificate of Competency is desirable but not a prerequisite.
  • Membership of a recognized professional body is an advantage.

 

Experience

 

  • Minimum of eight (8) years’ experience in underground mine scheduling and planning roles, with at least five (5) years at senior supervisory level.
  • Demonstrated expertise in short‑ to medium‑term scheduling processes.
  • Solid understanding of underground mining methods and operational practices.
  • Experience coordinating planning inputs from multiple technical disciplines.
  • Proven ability to develop and deliver executable schedules within strict timeframes.

Demonstrated ability to develop and mentor direct reports

 

Knowledge & Skills

 

Technical Competencies

  • Proficiency in Deswik or equivalent mine planning software is desirable.
  • Strong Excel and data analysis skills.
  • Effective communication and collaboration with technical and operational teams.

 

Functional Competencies

 

  • Ability to work underground as required, including travel between work areas.
  • Ability to work for extended periods in an office environment.
  • Physically fit to meet site medical and functional capacity requirements.

 

Legal Requirements
