AngloGold Ashanti (Ghana) Limited, Obuasi Gold Mine is currently near completion of the redevelopment phase to become a modern, efficient and long-term profitable operation. The underground mining operation has been fully mechanized and designed to produce up to an average maximum of 5,000 t/day of ore mined.

OBJECTIVE OF THE ROLE

 

The Senior Specialist, Systems Coordination is the technical authority responsible for the availability, integrity, security, and evolution of all critical OEC operational technology systems.

The role ensures seamless integration and performance of radio/voice/data networks, fleet management systems, SCADA/PLC platforms, HME telemetry, shaft and winder systems, tracking, ticketing, and the minimum data & reporting layer required to support safe and efficient mining operations.

This is not a firstlevel support role. The incumbent orchestrates incidents, problems, changes, and system evolution across OT, DT, Engineering, and vendors, translating operational demands into robust, compliant technical solutions while minimizing operational risk and cost.

 

ROLE ACCOUNTABILITIES

Safety

  • Deliver the Safety Management Plan elements in a compliant manner for areas under control.
  • Ensure all control and instrumentation systems meet statutory mining regulations, OEM standards, and company engineering governance requirements.
  • Apply HSE regulations with zero tolerance for breaches and demonstrate safety behaviour consistent with company values.
  • Lead by example to create a safe working environment, ensuring risks are assessed and managed.
  • Apply Safety Management System elements including inspections, audits and JHAs.
  • Support incident investigations related to automation, instrumentation, or control system failures.
  • Conduct risk assessments, HAZOPs, and critical controls verification for critical systems

Environment

  • Supervise underground construction, refurbishment and maintenance activities in accordance with environmental approvals and the Environmental Management Plan.
  • Issue environmental instructions to employees as required.
  • Achieve zero reportable environmental incidents and zero compliance breaches.

People

  • Define roles and accountabilities using AGA’s How We Work guidelines.
  • Execute training and development plans and develop skills matrices.
  • Communicate policies and procedures to ensure understanding and compliance.
  • Develop succession plans for key positions.

Work

  • Maintain and continuously update PLC/SCADA and related systems.
  • Ensure integrity of safety‑critical systems and communication infrastructure.
  • Coordinate incidents, problems, and system changes until normalization.
  • Maintain prioritized backlogs of support and improvements.
  • Ensure integration across fleet management, telemetry/SCADA, radios, and reporting systems.
  • Define and monitor SLAs/SLOs, backups and restoration testing.
  • Apply information security controls including access profiles, segregation of duties and patch management.
  • Provide real‑time technical support to OEC operators.

Cost, Time and Risk Management

  • Prepare and manage sectional budgets in alignment with company objectives.
  • Identify and implement cost‑reduction initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with scheduled maintenance and performance targets.
  • Identify and mitigate risks using established risk management systems

Reporting and Governance

  • Report to the OEC Superintendent with a dotted line to the Engineering Manager – OT/CIC.
  • Ensure compliance with legislation, codes, standards and internal procedures.
  • Participate in audits, reviews, and statutory inspections.

 

ROLE REQUIREMENTS

Education & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Electrical/Electronics, Computer, Telecommunication, or related) with 3–5 years relevant experience, OR
  • Diploma in Engineering with a minimum of 10 years relevant experience (per LI 2182 Reg. 51 & 54).
  • Postgraduate qualification in Project Management or Digital Transformation is an added advantage.

Experience

  • Minimum of 3 years in engineering roles, preferably within the mining industry.
  • Proven experience in systems integration, supplier management, and coordinating multidisciplinary teams

 

Legal Requirements

  • Sectional Engineer or Inspecting Engineer Certificate of Competence from the Inspectorate Division of the Mineral Commission.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license with GhIE or IET‑GH.

 

Knowledge & Skills

  • Strong technical knowledge of CIC standards, PLC/SCADA, automation systems and data architecture.
  • Experience with mining technologies including fleet management and automation platforms.
  • Strong problem‑solving, planning, reliability and project management skills.
  • Ability to communicate technical issues effectively across all levels
