AngloGold Ashanti (Ghana) Limited, Obuasi Gold Mine is currently near completion of the redevelopment phase to become a modern, efficient and long-term profitable operation. The underground mining operation has been fully mechanized and designed to produce up to an average maximum of 5,000 t/day of ore mined.

OBJECTIVE OF THE ROLE

 

  • Accountable for the inspection, design and maintenance of structures and earthworks across all project sites.
  • Lead execution of construction drawings, supervision and implementation of specifications, standards and safe workmanship to achieve timely completion of civil construction works.
  • Implement systems and processes to maintain the health of steel and concrete installations and oversee site development, heavy equipment foundations and plant infrastructure both underground and on surface.
  • Drive contractor management to improve project delivery, safety, costs and environmental performance while ensuring strict adherence to budget, schedule and safety standards.

 

ROLE ACCOUNTABILITIES

 

  • Demonstrate and uphold AngloGold Ashanti’s values in all decisions, actions and professional conduct.
  • Actively support full compliance with site safety requirements and foster a culture of zero harm across all activities.
  • Develop and review civil and structural engineering drawings, including plot plans, foundation details for heavy milling, CIL or BIOX circuits, underground projects and site drainage systems.
  • Provide on-site technical authority during construction and commissioning, resolving technical queries and requests for information.
  • Monitor EPC and construction contractor activities against safety, QA/QC and schedule deliverables.
  • Ensure compliance with safety-in-design principles, hazardous process considerations, plot layout and environmental regulations.
  • Lead periodic audits on steel, concrete and wooden infrastructure and recommend strategies to maintain the health of installations.
  • Specify, design, analyse and verify new civil and structural projects.
  • Participate in root cause failure analysis for concrete and steel structures.
  • Review, approve and sign off detailed design requirements, execution plans and schedules, testing plans, operational commissioning plans, handover plans, training plans, manuals, records, drawings, specifications and related documents.
  • Deliver infrastructure requirements consistent with the procurement and contracting strategy addressing construction time, cost and quality risks.
  • Prepare material take-offs, bills of quantities and cost estimates to protect the project’s commercial interests.
  • Ensure cost impacts are evaluated and approved and budgets revised where required; propose cost saving initiatives.
  • Oversee inspections and testing to ensure quality and performance meet specifications, designs and requirements.
  • Advise progress and KPI status to management in a timely manner and highlight potential cost, schedule or quality variances.
  • Prepare weekly and monthly reports providing accurate and timely information on safety, cost, schedule and quality for construction works.
  • Participate in formal cost and schedule reviews to support accurate and timely reporting.
  • Establish KPIs for construction activities and schedule weekly progress measurement.
  • Proactively control construction activities to avoid potential project cost and schedule overruns.
  • Communicate accurate and timely construction schedule delivery, progress, cost and quality to stakeholders.
  • Ensure monitoring and data collection demonstrate execution of construction works in accordance with Government of Ghana conditions of approvals and the site Environmental Management Plan.
  • Support interface management for construction and refurbishment works and maintain meeting records, agreed actions and follow up to close actions.
  • Verify that construction daily production targets align with the approved project schedule and achieve critical milestones and targets.
  • Inspect and review site safety management implementation to comply with the Safety Management System.
  • Identify and communicate potential cost reduction initiatives for infrastructure maintenance.
  • Oversee site development, heavy equipment foundations and plant infrastructure underground and on surface with strict adherence to budget, schedule and safety standards.

 

ROLE REQUIREMENTS

 

Education & Qualification

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license from either the Ghana Institution of Engineering (GhIE) or Institution of Engineering and Technology, Ghana (IET-GH) or other professional bodies.
  • Sectional Engineer or Inspecting Engineer Certificate of Competence from the Inspectorate Division of the Mineral Commission (IDMC) will be an advantage.
  • Valid Ghanaian manual driver's licence.

 

Experience

 

  • Minimum 5 years hands-on project controls experience preferably within mining or built environment.
  • Experience in heavy industrial construction, specifically on gold processing plants such as CIP, CIL or BIOX circuits, heap leach pads, tailings storage facilities and underground infrastructure.
  • Experience in project management with demonstrated ability for project delivery.

 

Knowledge & Skills

 

  • Advanced theoretical and practical knowledge of AutoCAD or Revit, STAAD.Pro Architecture, SolidWorks, Civil 3D or equivalent design programs.
  • Sound project management skills with excellent proficiency in Microsoft PowerPoint, Word, Project and Excel.
  • Excellent time management to meet project deadlines; strong analytical, planning and problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, negotiation and influencing skills; ability to communicate technical issues effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate multidisciplinary teams and contractors; delegate tasks; evaluate progression and adherence to deadlines; and reprioritize activities as required.
  • Results orientated and organized with ability to plan and deliver against deadlines; hands-on approach and willingness to work long hours when required.
  • Ability to meet diverse engineering challenges related to production-oriented activities and to lead by example to create a safe working environment.
  • Ability to identify skill deficiencies and initiate corrective actions; communicate policies and procedures to achieve full understanding and compliance.
  • Capability to monitor risks and risk mitigation plans, deliver Safety Management Plan elements and model work behaviors consistent with company values.
  • Ability to find innovative solutions through creative thinking and problem solving; promote teamwork and work effectively with diverse groups.
  • Organizational skills to manage multiple workers, schedules and budgets concurrently.
