OBJECTIVE OF THE ROLE
- Support the management with financial and non-financial performance management by providing data and reports and ensuring their integrity to support decision making and improve cost management at the mine.
- Work across planning, budgeting and forecasting, and cost performance, reporting and improvement to support the financial planning and performance management of the mine, including compiling management information for the region.
- Partner closely with operations teams to proactively flag cost abnormalities and deviations for corrective action and contribute to cost initiatives.
ROLE ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Prepare rolling forecasts.
- Support the preparation of the annual budget.
- Prepare key macro and micro assumptions for input into the planning and budgeting process.
- Prepare site and regional annual business plans and strategic options.
- Collaborate with and assist Operations to assess the financial feasibility of new projects, expansion initiatives and scenario planning.
- Provide key management information, detailed performance statements and value driver breakdowns.
- Perform detailed cost and variance analysis with commentary.
- Support business analysis and related processes for making recommendations for performance improvements.
- Work closely with operations teams to understand and assist the business to address operational challenges, identify areas of performance shortfall, assist with investigations of variances and formulate remedial measures.
- Provide financial analysis and develop and maintain financial models.
- Run and coordinate cost improvement initiatives across the organisation, liaising with relevant teams to define, execute and report on the initiatives.
- Support departments in coordinating and running cost routines, providing relevant numbers and coaching on how to run sessions.
- Ensure data integrity and timely communication to relevant stakeholders.
- Develop and maintain effective relationships with business partners and cross-functional teams at various levels of the organisation.
- Assist in developing FBP tools.
- Coach junior team members.
- Assist with ad hoc requirements, including support to other mining sites when needed.
ROLE REQUIREMENTS
Education & Qualification
- Relevant Finance or Management Accounting degree.
- Chartered accountant or interim stage.
Experience
- 3-4 years’ experience in financial forecasting, budgeting and management reporting.
- At least 2 years in mining operational financial roles.
- Experience in financial systems including advanced Excel and TM1.
- Experience of working with cross-functional and geographical teams.
- Experience with running cross-functional cost improvement initiatives.
- Experience with the mining value chain and open pit mining operations.
- Experience in conducting financial feasibility studies, ROI analysis and due diligence for investment projects.
Knowledge & Skills
- Proficient understanding of financial and economic concepts.
- Ability to interpret, analyse and consolidate financial data, reports and statements, and advise accordingly.
- Strong cost leadership capability, with the ability to challenge, influence and drive operational and financial performance through disciplined cost management and productivity improvement.
- Conceptual thinking.
- Knowledge of the Group structure and operations within AGA.
- Knowledge of the gold mining value chain.
