AngloGold Ashanti (Ghana) Limited, Obuasi Gold Mine is currently near completion of the redevelopment phase to become a modern, efficient and long-term profitable operation. The underground mining operation has been fully mechanized and designed to produce up to an average maximum of 5,000 t/day of ore mined.

OBJECTIVE OF THE ROLE
The Specialist – Medium Term Planning is responsible for leading the development, governance, and optimization of medium‑term mine plans to ensure reliable translation of the Life of Mine strategy into executable 3‑to‑24‑month plans.
The role provides senior technical oversight across assigned mining block(s), ensuring planning integrity, infrastructure readiness, and compliance with site standards. Medium‑term plans integrate critical design, geotechnical, ventilation, infrastructure, and capital inputs while remaining aligned with operational priorities and business requirements.
The role acts as the technical authority for medium‑term planning within assigned block(s).
ROLE ACCOUNTABILITIES
Safety, Values and Compliance
- Demonstrate and uphold AngloGold Ashanti values in all decisions, actions, and professional conduct
- Allocate a minimum of 30% of time to actively support compliance with site safety requirements and foster a culture of zero harm
Underground Engagement and Validation
- Allocate a minimum of 30% of time underground within assigned mining block(s)
- Validate planning assumptions, verify design compliance, assess infrastructure readiness, and ensure medium‑term plans reflect actual field conditions and operational constraints
Medium‑Term Planning and Governance
- Lead preparation, validation, and optimization of medium‑term plans and forecasts across a 3‑to‑24‑month horizon Ensure alignment with Life of Mine strategy, capital priorities, and operational readiness.
- Accountable for governance, application, and continuous improvement of medium‑term planning standards, procedures, and design compliance requirements
Design Integration and Technical Oversight
- Accountable for the generation of infrastructure and development designs, block and stope notes, stope designs, and mining instructions within assigned block(s)
- Oversee integration of ground control, ventilation, void management, and backfill planning inputs into medium‑term plans
- Maintain block‑level Void Management Plans, fill notes, and supporting compliance documentation
Performance Management and Integration
- Lead reconciliation and performance review processes across the medium‑term planning horizon
- Coordinate with short‑term and Life of Mine planners to ensure horizon integration, milestone alignment, and schedule continuity
- Provide senior technical guidance and mentoring to planning engineers
- Contribute to business improvement initiatives through planning optimization and process refinement
ROLE REQUIREMENTS
Education & Qualification
- Tertiary qualification in Mining Engineering or a related discipline
- Training or exposure to mine design software (e.g. Deswik CAD/Scheduler) and mine planning systems is desirable
- First Aid Certificate from an internationally recognized body
- Blasting Certificate of Competency from the Minerals Commission of Ghana (MINCOM)
Legal Requirements
- Valid driver’s license
Experience
- Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in underground Mine planning, with a focus on development and production design
- Familiarity with medium‑term planning processes, design approval workflows, and integration with weekly and 12‑week scheduling
- Understanding of void management practices, reconciliation procedures, and infrastructure design coordination
- Experience working within a cross‑functional technical team in an underground mining environment
Knowledge & Skills
Technical Competencies
- Proficiency in Deswik (CAD and Scheduler), Excel, and PowerPoint for planning, design, and reporting
- Strong communication and coordination skills across multidisciplinary teams
- Ability to work underground and meet site medical and functional capacity requirements
Functional Competencies
- Ability to work underground as required, including travel between work areas
- Capable of using a computer for extended periods in an office environment.
- Physically fit to meet site medical and functional capacity requirements
