OBJECTIVE OF THE ROLE
- Provide technical metallurgical expertise throughout the lifecycle of mining and metallurgical projects, from concept development, pre-feasibility studies and feasibility studies through execution, commissioning, ramp-up, and operational readiness and optimization.
- Ensure metallurgical processes, recovery targets, plant performance objectives, and project deliverables are achieved safely, efficiently, and in alignment with AngloGold Ashanti’s operational standards.
- Provide specialist input into metallurgical test work, process design, flowsheet development, project evaluations, plant modifications, commissioning activities, and continuous improvement initiatives to maximize gold recovery and overall process performance.
ROLE ACCOUNTABILITIES

- Actively support full compliance with site safety requirements and foster a culture of zero harm across all activities.
- Collaborate with mining, geology, process engineering, maintenance, health and safety, supply chain, project services and administration, environmental, and operational teams.
- Engage with consultants, engineering contractors, laboratories, and equipment suppliers, and provide specialist advice to project managers, senior technical leadership, and project teams.
- Support cost controls through technical decisions, accurate engineering inputs, and optimization of metallurgical solutions, including capital cost estimates, CAPEX, and operating cost estimates, OPEX.
- Provide strategic metallurgical input into project budgets, investment decisions, and value assessments.
- Challenge project assumptions to ensure metallurgical designs deliver maximum economic value.
- Support contract negotiations and technical evaluation of vendors, consultants, and engineering contractors.
- Provide metallurgical leadership and technical support for mining and mineral processing projects.
- Review and validate metallurgical assumptions used in project studies, including scoping, pre-feasibility, feasibility, and execution phases.
- Develop and review metallurgical criteria, process design parameters, and recovery models.
- Support project risk assessments, technical reviews, and decision-making processes.
- Evaluate ore characteristics, metallurgical behaviour, and processing performance to identify optimization opportunities.
- Interpret metallurgical test work results and recommend appropriate processing strategies.
- Support optimization of process plant operations and recovery processes.
- Assist in developing and improving plant operating philosophies and metallurgical performance standards.
- Define metallurgical test work programmes and oversee execution by internal and external laboratories.
- Review laboratory procedures, quality control practices, and technical reports.
- Ensure test results are accurately incorporated into engineering designs and project decisions.
- Provide metallurgical input during detailed engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, and ramp-up phases.
ROLE REQUIREMENTS
Education & Qualification
- Tertiary degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Process Engineering, Mineral Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related discipline.
- PMP or GHIE certification is an advantage.
- Valid Ghanaian manual driver's licence as required by site.
Experience
- Minimum 7 years of relevant metallurgical experience in gold processing, mineral processing operations, or mining projects.
- Working knowledge of capital project evaluation, cost control, and project governance.
- Experience working in a large-scale gold mining operation.
- Exposure to feasibility studies, EPC/EPCM project environments, and commissioning activities.
- Experience with metallurgical modelling, process simulation, and data analysis.
Knowledge & Skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office suite, particularly MS Excel.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills to support planning discussions and documentation.
- Analytical mindset with attention to estimation accuracy, compliance, and execution requirements.
- Strong knowledge of mineral processing principles and gold metallurgy.
- Ability to interpret metallurgical test work and translate findings into engineering solutions.
- Proficiency in metallurgical balance calculations and process performance analysis.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
- Competence in technical report writing and presentation.
- Safety-focused mindset and commitment to responsible mining practices.
- Strong leadership and collaboration skills.
