OBJECTIVE OF THE ROLE
- Support the development and delivery of integrated mine schedules that align operational activities with short- and medium-term planning objectives.
- Provide advanced scheduling support within designated mining block(s) to ensure activity logic, constraints, designs, and operational requirements are accurately represented across all planning horizons.
- Maintain schedule quality, support operational execution, strengthen cross functional engagement, and mentor junior scheduling engineers.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of scheduling standards, planning integration, and performance tracking across the mine.
ROLE ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Demonstrate and uphold AngloGold Ashanti values in all decisions, actions, and professional conduct.
- Allocate a minimum of 30% of time to actively support compliance with site safety requirements and contribute to a culture of zero harm across all activities.
- Allocate a minimum of 30% of time underground within assigned block groups to validate scheduling assumptions, confirm activity sequencing, and ensure schedules reflect actual operational constraints and field conditions.
- Support the professional development of junior scheduling engineers through mentoring, feedback, and structured on the job training.
- Undertake responsibility for assigned block groups and support work areas that require elevated scheduling effort, operational interaction, or coordination with technical and operational teams, as allocated by the Manager Short Term Planning & Scheduling.
- Ensure cross functional inputs are incorporated into scheduling deliverables, and regularly validate assumptions, activity durations, sequencing logic, and operational constraints.
- Support the use and maintenance of scheduling tools and reporting systems to ensure reliability, transparency, and schedule integrity.
- Develop and maintain the short term and rolling three-month schedule for assigned work areas, ensuring activities are logically sequenced, deliverable, and aligned with weekly execution plans and approved medium term forecasts.
- Coordinate with production, engineering, and technical services to integrate activity logic, infrastructure dependencies, drilling and blasting sequences, ground support, ventilation, and backfill requirements into the schedule.
- Maintain and update Deswik schedules and dependencies in line with approved mine designs, sequencing requirements, and operational constraints.
- Prepare and issue integrated schedules including commentary, key milestones, physical tracking, and readiness checks to support weekly planning forums.
- Monitor planned versus actual compliance, physical performance, and schedule execution, and provide variance commentary or escalation where required.
- Contribute to scheduling related improvement initiatives that enhance schedule compliance, performance tracking, planning integration, and alignment across short term, medium term, and Life of Mine planning horizons.
ROLE REQUIREMENTS
Education & Qualification
- Tertiary qualification in Mining Engineering or a related discipline.
- Training or exposure to mine scheduling software such as Deswik is required.
- Possession of a recognized professional First Aid Certificate is desirable but not a pre-requisite.
- MINCOM Shift boss or higher Certificate of Competency is desirable but not a pre-requisite.
- Valid Ghanaian manual driver's licence as required by site.
Experience
- Minimum five years’ experience in underground mining operations.
- Minimum three years in a Scheduling Engineer role or equivalent, with demonstrated ability to manage complex scheduling areas.
- Exposure to multi-disciplinary planning environments is advantageous.
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong understanding of short term and medium-term scheduling principles.
- Familiarity with underground mining methods, production constraints, and operational data.
- Ability to interpret geological, geotechnical, and planning inputs to generate executable schedules.
- Proficiency in mine planning and scheduling software such as Deswik or equivalent.
- Strong Excel and data interpretation skills.
- Effective communication and collaboration with technical and operational teams.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to develop, validate, and maintain complex cost models.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel and reporting tools for data analysis, forecasting, dashboards, and reconciliation.
- Ability to interpret mine plans, physicals, and production metrics to support cost and productivity analysis.
- Clear and concise communication skills for presenting cost inputs, analyses, and recommendations.
- Strong organisational skills for managing multiple planning inputs, updates, and reporting cycles.
- Ability to work underground as required, including travel between work areas.
- Capable of using a computer for extended periods in an office environment.
- Physically fit to meet site medical and functional capacity requirements.
