OBJECTIVE OF THE ROLE
- The Senior Specialist - Long Term Planning is responsible for developing and maintaining long-term mine planning inputs that support business planning, capital allocation, and resource development decisions.
- The role leads Life of Mine option assessments and supports new project evaluations by integrating geological, technical, and operational inputs into a cohesive long-term plan.
- Reporting to the Manager - Planning, the role provides frontline leadership, technical support, and governance over long-term planning processes.
ROLE ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Demonstrate and uphold AngloGold Ashanti’s values in all decisions, actions, and professional conduct.
- Allocate a minimum of 30% of time to actively support full compliance with site safety requirements and foster a culture of zero harm across all activities.
- Allocate a minimum of 30% of time underground to validate long-term planning assumptions, assess infrastructure sequencing, and ensure Life of Mine strategies remain aligned with actual mining conditions.
- Provide mentoring, technical guidance, and structured training to engineers as part of succession planning efforts to build sustainable long-term planning capability and expertise.
- Lead the continuous improvement of Life of Mine planning assumptions, standards, documentation, and scenario evaluation frameworks, and support planning-related initiatives to improve integration and alignment across planning horizons.
- Lead planning presentations and reporting to support stakeholder engagement and strategic decision-making.
- Develop and maintain the Life of Mine plan, including reserve conversion, capital strategy, cut-off grade analysis, and integration of new project evaluations.
- Evaluate and compare Life of Mine scenarios to support long-term value optimisation and risk management.
- Coordinate and review capital AFE submissions to ensure alignment with strategic objectives and infrastructure planning priorities.
- Support resource and reserve reporting processes by ensuring long-term plans align with geological models, business assumptions, and corporate governance standards.
- Provide planning inputs into capital and operating design activities, including sequencing, timing, and infrastructure dependencies.
- Integrate geological models, drilling strategies, and grade control planning inputs into the Life of Mine framework to support resource development and execution.
- Incorporate void model updates into all planning horizons.
- Incorporate Ground Control Management Plan deliverables across all planning horizons.
- Incorporate Ventilation Management Plan deliverables across all planning horizons.
- Lead business planning inputs to support long-term financial forecasts, strategic plans, and operating targets.
- Support alignment of long-term plans with medium- and short-term horizons to enable seamless execution and plan handover.
ROLE REQUIREMENTS
Education & Qualification
- Tertiary qualification in Mining Engineering or a related discipline.
- Advanced training in mine planning, scheduling and production software such as Deswik CAD, IS and UGDB, and other relevant modules is desirable.
- Possession of a recognized professional First Aid Certificate is desirable but not a pre-requisite.
- MINCOM Shift boss or higher Certificate of Competency is desirable but not a pre-requisite.
- Valid Ghanaian manual driver's licence as required by site.
Experience
- Minimum of five years’ experience in Life-of-Mine planning and or capital and strategic planning processes, with at least three years in a senior supervisory role.
- Demonstrated abilities in reserve reporting, Life of Mine options analysis, cut-off grade calculations, and capital and operating budgeting inputs.
- Exposure to design development processes including development layouts, infrastructure inputs, and integration with resource and grade control strategies.
- Experience working within a multi-disciplinary technical team, preferably in an Alliance or contractor-owner environment.
- Knowledge of planning documentation requirements and performance reporting standards.
Knowledge & Skills
- Proficient in mine planning software such as Deswik CAD and Scheduler, MS Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to develop and deliver planning documentation and presentations.
- Ability to consolidate inputs across geology, geotechnical, ventilation, production, and infrastructure teams.
- Sound analytical and problem-solving skills, particularly in evaluating Life of Mine scenarios and design implications.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to develop, validate, and maintain complex cost models.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel and reporting tools for data analysis, forecasting, dashboards, and reconciliation.
- Ability to interpret mine plans, physicals, and production metrics to support cost and productivity analysis.
- Clear and concise communication skills for presenting cost inputs, analyses, and recommendations.
- Strong organisational skills for managing multiple planning inputs, updates, and reporting cycles.
- Ability to work underground as required, including travel between work areas.
- Capable of using a computer for extended periods in an office environment.
- Physically fit to meet site medical and functional capacity requirements.
