AngloGold Ashanti (Ghana) Limited, Obuasi Gold Mine is currently near completion of the redevelopment phase to become a modern, efficient and long-term profitable operation. The underground mining operation has been fully mechanized and designed to produce up to an average maximum of 5,000 t/day of ore mined.

OBJECTIVE OF THE ROLE
- Oversee strategic project designs and planning, feasibility studies, project cost modelling, and the review of consultants’ deliverables for underground mining projects.
- Manage the technical aspects of mining projects including scopes, designs, schedules, costs, studies, and reviews to support safe and effective delivery.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to optimise projects, ensure compliance with technical standards, and drive continuous improvement in project delivery processes.
ROLE ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Demonstrate and uphold AngloGold Ashanti’s values in all decisions, actions, and professional conduct.
- Allocate a minimum of 30% of time to actively support full compliance with site safety requirements and foster a culture of zero harm across all activities.
- Plan and schedule the execution of lateral and vertical development, access rehabilitation, and bulk excavation within the Mining Projects areas.
- Support the evaluation of mining projects, ensuring technical, financial, and operational viability from pre-feasibility studies to final engineering and construction.
- Interface between operations, project teams, and consultants to ensure alignment and provide ongoing support for mining studies.
- Manage project engineering services providers and vendors or consultants, including performance against deliverables.
- Provide detailed review and feedback on mining engineering deliverables.
- Provide guidance and technical leadership on standards, design, installation, and commissioning related matters for mining projects.
- Provide project and study governance and ensure the AngloGold Ashanti Project Management Framework is applied.
- Ensure compliance with project planning standards through the development, maintenance, and application of project documentation, risk assessments, and Project Work Instructions.
- Provide critical mining engineering input to scoping, pre-feasibility, and definitive feasibility studies.
- Support the project engineering team through knowledge sharing, mentoring activities, and participation in collaborative project reviews.
- Monitor project progress underground and coordinate with project teams, contractors, and consultants to ensure activities are executed in accordance with approved scope, schedule, and safety requirements.
- Support the evaluation of capital projects through technical inputs, design reviews, documentation preparation, and stakeholder engagement.
- Support the preparation of capital project proposals including cost estimates, scope definition, and documentation required for AFE submissions.
- Monitor project expenditure against approved budgets and provide updates on cost performance and potential variances.
- Lead and manage direct reports within the project team, ensuring support for operational effectiveness, design validation, and continuous improvement.
- Contribute to the review of project-related engineering deliverables including drill designs, charge plans, and supporting infrastructure documentation.
- Support business improvement initiatives and contribute to the implementation of project-related improvements that enhance compliance, efficiency, and project delivery performance.
ROLE REQUIREMENTS
Education & Qualification
- Tertiary qualification in Mining Engineering or a related discipline.
- A post degree would be considered a strong asset.
- Additional training in project management or underground infrastructure planning is desirable.
- PMP or GHIE certification is an advantage.
Experience
- Minimum 8 years’ proven experience in underground mining and mine planning, with exposure to infrastructure or project-focused roles.
- At least five years at senior supervisory level within a planning or technical department.
- Working knowledge of capital project evaluation, mine services design, and underground project execution.
- Exposure to Alliance-style contractor–owner environments and cross-functional collaboration.
Knowledge & Skills
- Proficient in Deswik CAD and MS Excel; familiarity with Deswik Scheduler is an advantage.
- AutoCAD proficiency.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills to support planning discussions and documentation.
- Analytical mindset with attention to design accuracy, compliance, and execution requirements.
- Understanding of project scopes, sequencing, and cost alignment within operational schedules.
- Ability to work underground as required, including travel between work areas.
- Capable of using a computer for extended periods in an office environment.
- Physically fit to meet site medical and functional capacity requirements.
- Valid Ghanaian manual driver's licence (as required by site).
