Sr. Specialist - Mining Projects

AngloGold Ashanti (Ghana) Limited, Obuasi Gold Mine is currently near completion of the redevelopment phase to become a modern, efficient and long-term profitable operation. The underground mining operation has been fully mechanized and designed to produce up to an average maximum of 5,000 t/day of ore mined.

We are seeking an experienced and self-motivated person to join our dedicated team as per the details below:

OBJECTIVE OF THE ROLE

• Support the safe, timely, and cost-effective delivery of underground infrastructure and capital projects by ensuring project scopes, designs, schedules, and construction are integrated into planning systems and aligned with operational and strategic priorities.
• Provide technical oversight and coordination of project execution activities within assigned mining block(s), facilitate effective communication between project engineering, planning, and operational teams, and contribute to optimisation, compliance with technical standards, and continuous improvement of project delivery processes.

ROLE ACCOUNTABILITIES

• Prepare accurate mining construction drawings for infrastructure, installations, and upgrades.
• Demonstrate and uphold AngloGold Ashanti’s values in all decisions, actions, and professional conduct.
• Allocate a minimum of 30% of time to actively support full compliance with site safety requirements and foster a culture of zero harm across all activities.
• Maintain a minimum of 30% underground presence to support operational effectiveness, validate designs, and contribute to continuous improvement through direct engagement with execution teams.
• Ensure compliance with project planning standards through the development, maintenance, and application of project documentation, risk assessments, and Project Work Instructions that support safe and effective project delivery.
• Support the project engineering team through knowledge sharing, mentoring activities, and participation in collaborative project reviews.
• Participate in planning forums and coordination meetings to ensure project activities are integrated with operational schedules, mine planning requirements, and infrastructure development priorities.
• Maintain and update mine services and reticulation line drawings to ensure ongoing accuracy and alignment with operational and infrastructure requirements.
• Coordinate the planning, review, and execution tracking of underground capital projects and infrastructure within assigned mining block(s), including integration of project designs and activity sequencing into Deswik systems.
• Monitor project progress underground and coordinate with operational teams and contractors to ensure activities are executed in accordance with approved scope, schedule, and safety requirements.
• Support the evaluation of capital projects through technical inputs, design reviews, documentation preparation, and stakeholder engagement.
• Support the preparation of capital project proposals including cost estimates, scope definition, and documentation required for AFE submissions.
• Monitor project expenditure against approved budgets and provide updates on cost performance and potential variances.
• Contribute to the review of project-related engineering deliverables including drill designs, charge plans, and supporting infrastructure documentation.
• Support business improvement initiatives and contribute to the implementation of project-related improvements that enhance compliance, efficiency, and project delivery performance.

ROLE REQUIREMENTS

Education & Qualification

• Tertiary qualification in Mining Engineering or a related discipline.
• Additional training in project management or underground infrastructure planning is desirable.
• PMP or GHIE certification is an advantage.

Experience

• Minimum 7 years’ experience in underground mining, with exposure to infrastructure or project-focused roles.
• Working knowledge of capital project evaluation, mine services design, and underground project execution.
• Familiarity with integrating drill designs and infrastructure layouts into mine planning software (e.g. Deswik).
• Exposure to alliance-style contractor–owner environments and cross-functional collaboration.
• Understanding of project scopes, sequencing, and cost alignment within operational schedules.

Knowledge & Skills

• Proficient in Deswik CAD and MS Excel; familiarity with Deswik Scheduler is an advantage.
• Proficient in AutoCAD.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills to support planning discussions and documentation.
• Analytical mindset with attention to design accuracy, compliance, and execution requirements.
• Ability to work underground as required, including travel between work areas.
• Capable of using a computer for extended periods in an office environment.
• Physically fit to meet site medical and functional capacity requirements.
• Valid Ghanaian manual driver’s licence (as required by site).
