AngloGold Ashanti (Ghana) Limited, Obuasi Gold Mine is currently near completion of the redevelopment phase to become a modern, efficient and long-term profitable operation. The underground mining operation has been fully mechanized and designed to produce up to an average maximum of 5,000 t/day of ore mined.

OBJECTIVE OF THE ROLE

 

To train, assess, and develop operators on Solo drilling equipment to ensure safe, efficient, and competent operation in line with company standards.

 

Support a modern mechanized underground operation by delivering training and assessments that align with production plans, safety requirements, and drill design parameters.

 

 

ROLE ACCOUNTABILITIES

 

  • Deliver training on longhole drilling techniques, including fan drilling, ring drilling, and production drilling.
  • Train operators on precision drilling to meet production blast requirements.
  • Assess operator competency in hole deviation control and drilling accuracy.
  • Ensure operators understand drill design parameters and blasting requirements.
  • Train on equipment setup, positioning, and alignment in production stopes.
  • Coach operators on maximizing productivity while minimizing dilution and ore loss.
  • Emphasize strict adherence to safety procedures in high-risk production zones.
  • Provide training on pre-start checks and equipment maintenance awareness.
  • Support troubleshooting of hydraulic, feed, and drilling system issues.
  • Monitor operator performance against KPIs, including meters drilled, accuracy, and downtime.
  • Maintain detailed training logs, assessments, and certification records.
  • Reinforce blasting coordination requirements and communication protocols.
  • Ensure compliance with mine production plans and drilling schedules.
  • Collaborate with geology and planning teams for accurate execution of drill designs.
  • Mentor operators to achieve competency progression from novice to advanced levels.

 

ROLE REQUIREMENTS

 

Education & Qualification

  • Must possess a Diploma or Certificate in Drilling Technology
  • Must possess an NVTI certificate, HND in Mechanical Engineering or any Technician certificate with good grades
  • Must hold Mincom Certificate in Solo Operation
  • Must have a recognized Train-the-Trainer and Assessor certification

 

Experience

 

  • Must have a minimum of 5 – 8 years relevant experience as a Solo equipment Trainer and underground mining experience
  • Previous experience as a Shift Trainer, Instructor 

 

Legal Requirements

 

  • Valid drivers’ licence

 

 

Technical Competencies

 

  • Must demonstrate understanding of equipment Safety
  • Must possess good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Must demonstrate ability to train, assess, and provide constructive feedback
  • Must have a minimum of 5
  • Must be able to work in shifts and underground mining conditions 

 

Functional Competencies

 

  • Ability to work underground as required, including travel between work areas
  • Capable of using a computer for extended periods in an office environment.
  • Physically fit to meet site medical and functional capacity requirements

 

 

Knowledge & Skills

 

  • Must demonstrate understanding of equipment Safety
  • Must possess good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Must demonstrate ability to train, assess, and provide constructive feedback
  • Must be medically fit for underground mining work
  • Must be able to work in shifts and underground mining conditions
  • Ability to work underground as required, including travel between work areas
  • Capable of using a computer for extended periods in an office environment
  • Physically fit to meet site medical and functional capacity requirements
