We are currently seeking a Senior Specialist : Tailings Engineer to join our corporate team based in our Perth office with the requirement and opportunity for international travel to our global operations. Reporting to the Director Tailings.
This role purpose is to provide tailings engineering services and governance for AngloGold Ashanti globally;
With the scope of work including operational support, technology, capital projects and M&A’s.
Accountabilities:
- To provide governance and technical services to the global operations and projects in the fields of tailings and heap leach engineering.
- Modelling behaviour that is consistent with the AGA Safety Vision and Values, assisting in driving a culture where Safety is our first value, and providing support for incident/accident investigations where required.
- Provide expert advice and input to the business units and related functions.
- Establish and maintain relationships with external vendors, Engineers of Record (EOR's), Independent Tailings Review Boards (ITRB's), suppliers, research institutions, etc.
- Identify ongoing governance and technical improvement opportunities. Provide support to the CTO technical team to act on these opportunities.
- Maintain knowledge of global standards and guidelines and relevant country legislation pertaining to the operation of tailings storage and heap leach facilities.
- Support the tailings discipline lead on all tailings governance activities.
About You

- Experience in TSF design, operation and closure
- A strong commitment towards leading a safe work culture and upholding our values.
- Hold a degree qualification in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering
- Ability to take a 3+ year production and deposition perspective in managing multiple competing priorities and reconciling these with the Company’s strategic priorities
- Effective interpersonal skills with the ability to liaise with people at all levels within the organisation.
- Sound practical understanding of the entire mining value chain including geology, mining, geotechnical, metallurgy, engineering, tailings and projects
- Flexibility to undertake extensive business travel and work across multiple timezones
- Solid written, analytical and verbal communication skills.
- The ability to obtain a National Police Clearance.
- Have existing and ongoing valid Australian working rights (Mandatory).
