OBJECTIVE OF THE ROLE

The purpose of the Waste & Chemicals Senior Supervisor is to provide support to the Waste & Chemicals Superintendent in coordinating waste and chemicals management, and Pest control, and oversee all waste prevention, reuse, recycling, collection, and disposal activities, and ensures that standard operating procedures are rigorously followed.

 

ROLE ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Contribute to the safety goals’ achievement.
  • Contribute to the identification of safety risks and resolve an escalating emerging issue that impact on the Environment department area.
  • Oversee the implantation of waste prevention, reuse, valorisation, collection, and disposal activities, and ensure monitoring, report, and follow-up on all the operations.
  • Organise waste segregation, for reuse or recycling.
  • Draw up the collection route plan and identify the most appropriate routes.
  • Oversee the collection of hazardous waste and expired chemicals and ensure the registration of collected products.
  • Schedule and oversee the collection of used oil and batteries from the site to recycling facilities.
  • Oversee the implementation of pest control activities.
  • Oversee and monitor the operation of the composting centre and follow up on all the operations required to transform the waste into compost.
  • Develop a pest control schedule and pest removal procedure and guidelines.
  • Organise the encapsulation process of hazardous waste.
  • Carry out regular inspections in workplace relating to the waste management and hazardous materials.
  • Develop and implement integrated waste management approaches, including waste reuse, valorisation, and recycling initiative.
  • Organise awareness campaigns and disseminate best practices.
  • Generate cost saving ideas related to waste management and/or other environmental activities. 
  • Collaborate with other SAG Departments in assisting host communities in improving waste management practices.
  • Conduct weekly, monthly, and annually inspection, reporting, and correctives actions follow up.
  • Provide weekly reports and participate in providing data for monthly, quarterly, and annually report.
  • Assist in monitoring the implementation of ISO 14001:2015 on the site.
  • Plan and perform the employee’s performance appraisal process according to the Human Resources procedures.
  • Review the SOPs for Waste and Chemicals management.
  • Comply with procedures and with the reporting requirements to both site and AGA where applicable.
  • Establish purchase orders for work or parts, as required by the Department.
  • Follow up staff planning, annual leave, and replacements to ensure the performance.
  • Follow up task assignments in line with the subordinates KPI, and report on progress.
  • Ensure discipline, involvement, punctuality, and attendance of all staff under your responsibility.
  • coach your team and monitor their skills development.
  • Synchronise the activity of a team.

 

ROLE REQUIREMENTS

Education & Qualification

  • BSc or MSc in environmental sciences, engineering, or other relevant disciplines
  • Internal AGA requirements.
  • Ability to proficiently use Microsoft office.           

 

Experience, Knowledge and Skills

 

  • A minimum of 3-5 years relevant post qualification experience, preferably within the mining industry.
  • Knowledge of environmental processes, procedures, and guidelines
  • Depth knowledge on waste and chemical management
