We are currently seeking an experienced Geologist with outstanding leadership skills to join our Geology team at Sunrise Dam as Superintendent: Surface Mine Exploration. 
This is a permanent position based on an 8/6, 4/3 roster with flights out to Perth and/or Kalgoorlie. 

 

Accountable to the Geology Manager, you will manage a small team of Exploration Geologists within a large on-site exploration team to prioritise, and advance exploration targets and known surface resources by leveraging geological, geophysical and geochemical data.
 

This role is responsible for the strategic planning and execution of surface near mine exploration activities within the SDGM leases with a focus on resource definition and growth.  A key focus is on growing a pipeline of open-pit operations to address the ore shortfall between the 4MTPA processing plant and underground operations.

Within the leadership component, the role builds and maintains a skilled exploration team, ensuring alignment with corporate strategies such as Exploration for Value (E4V). The Superintendent plays a critical role in resource development, target generation, and strategic growth through organic and inorganic exploration opportunities, contributing to the overall success of SDGM’s mining operations.

 

Accountabilities:
 

  • To provide a safe work environment, implement and deliver compliance with SHE&C plans, management systems and processes within Mine Geology
  • Contribute to and lead the department safety culture and initiatives in the exploration team. 
  • Over-see and maintain a work culture that is reflective of AngloGold Ashanti’s values
  • Deliver surface and open-pit resource development plans to ensure consistent and predictable delivery of the resource inventory to successfully deliver the surface mine plan
  • Develop the exploration plans to test the Mine Lease gold potential.
  • Review Inorganic opportunities surrounding SDGM mining lease
  • Build and maintain organisational capability (people & processes) for the exploration work group
  • Develop the annual surface exploration budget deliverables in line with the business plan
  • Maintain processes for the Surface Exploration work group creating a culture continuous improvement to lift the efficiency and effectiveness of the work outputs
  • Diagnostic analysis of performance to plans keeping management informed of foreseeable risks or impediments to plan and budget delivery
  • Work with colleagues at Sunrise Dam and the Australian Region, to maximise organisational value
  • Contractor management


About you :

  • Preferred minimum of 10 years geology experience covering both Exploration and ideally Mine Geology, with several years of those in a supervisory role
  • Bachelor degree in Geoscience
  • Broad range of skills in Greenfields and Brownfields exploration in an operating mine along with a sound understanding of orogenic gold deposits, structural geology and exploration targeting.
  • Experience in geophysical techniques and interpretation
  • Proficient in geological software – preferably Vulcan, Leapfrog and Datashed
  • Knowledge in core processing techniques, sampling techniques, drilling techniques and geological modelling
  • Prior experience in building budgets and delivering to budget
  • Highly collaborative communicating ability
  • High level planning and organisation skills
  • Manual driver’s licence and 4WD capable
  • A National Police Clearance
  • Existing and ongoing Permanent work rights in Australia (Mandatory)
