OBJECTIVE OF THE ROLE

 

  • Design, lead, and control all project-related communications with a focus on trust restoration, transparency, and accountability.
  • Ensure communications are accurate, consistent, timely, and credible; support delivery without over-promising; and align with national regulations, company policies, and international standards (IFC PS1, PS5, GIIP).
  • Acknowledge and address stakeholder concerns through honest and empathetic engagement, while proactively managing misinformation, speculation, and reputational risk.

 

ROLE ACCOUNTABILITIES

 

  • Design and lead project communications strategies and plans across ABU projects.
  • Ensure accurate, consistent, timely, and credible communications and translate technical information into plain language.
  • Engage stakeholders with honesty and empathy and manage high-risk community and reputational issues.
  • Proactively manage misinformation, speculation, media relations, and crisis communications.
  • Provide functional oversight to communications consultants and service providers.
  • Align communications with national regulations, company policies, and international standards (IFC PS1, PS5, GIIP).

 

ROLE REQUIREMENTS

 

Education & Qualification

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Social Sciences, Development Studies, Public Relations, or related field.
  • Master’s degree in Strategic Communications, Public Affairs, ESG, or Social Performance is an advantage.

 

Experience

 

  • At least 7 years’ relevant experience in project communications, stakeholder engagement, or corporate affairs.
  • Experience in mining, infrastructure, resettlement, or extractives.
  • Demonstrated experience managing high risk community and reputational issues.
  • Experience working with traditional authorities, regulators, NGOs, and media.
  • Familiarity with IFC Performance Standards and international lender requirements.
