We are now seeking a Geology Technician to join our Geology team at Tropicana Gold Mine on a permanent basis. Accountable to the Mine Geology Supervisor, this role provides support to the Geology team through the allocation of tasks/activities and resources as prioritized and directed by the Mine Geology Supervisor or delegated Leading Hands.

This role is based at the Tropicana Gold Mine on an 8/6 FIFO roster, we operate direct flights to our sites from Perth and Kalgoorlie.

 

Accountabilities:

  • Carry out open pit related tasks when requested. 
  • Execute Core yard duties to deliver required objectives and outputs, tasks include Core orientation, Mag-sus, SG, Hardness Testing, Photography of drill core and Geotech.
  • Carry out core cutting and sampling of core ensuring QAQC protocols are followed.
  • Sample prep for onsite lab – Crushing core, splitting, scanning and creating sample dispatch orders.
  • Assist other departments as directed by Leading Hand: Geology or Mine Geology Supervisor.
  • Operate computers, generate, update, maintain geological data files
  • Operate and maintain equipment related to the geological resourcing requirements.
  • Install and pick up Blast Monitors or Blast Vector Indicators (BVI) for blast monitoring activities when requested. 
  • Prepare samples for analysis in the onsite lab.
  • Assist in maintaining pulp, chip tray and core library catalogues.

 

About You

  • Preferably experience in Core Yard activities and exposure to an open pit mining environment.
  • Familiarity with computers including basic knowledge of Microsoft Windows programs.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills.
  • Commitment to Safety.
  • Capable of developing and maintaining working relationships across a broad cross section of AngloGold Ashanti’s mining personnel, consultants and contractors.


Desirable skills/experience:

  • Current manual C Class driver's licence
  • Completion of Year 12 secondary school education
  • Previous experience in a Geology Assistant role is highly desirable
  • Current High Risk Work License LF (Forklift)
  • Manual drivers license
  • Experience in database applications is desirable although not essential
  • First Aid Certificate
  • Experience in using SAP software
  • Permanent work rights in Australia
