The Africa Business Unit manages four operations in Ghana, Tanzania, and Guinea, producing more than 1.1 Moz per year. The Business Unit is seeking an experienced and self-motivated person to join its Human Resources Department.
The Opportunity
To Coordinate for the design and drafting for all structural, mechanical and piping scope of works for medium and large projects in the Africa Business Unit (ABU) Project.
Additionally, advising on all relevant construction projects undertaken by the Mines in the Business Unit to ensure compliance with OHSAS 18001 and ISO 14001 Implementation principles within the area of accountability for both permanent and contract employees. The reporting structure is expected to change when preparing for construction phase with possible integration with the Africa Projects BU.
Accountabilities
- Governance, technical due diligence and support to capital projects to ensure the compliance of all relevant AGA’s standards.
- Ensure the health and safety of all personnel associated with the projects.
- Manage all the consultants providing structural, mechanical, and piping design services for the ABU projects.
- Produce comprehensive project plans and documentation to enable the project to be managed against a clear set of defined deliverables and milestones.
- Implement and monitor the design control process from concept, review, issue and as-built for all structural, mechanical, piping and construction packages.
- Manage design review documentation and update relevant registers.
- Implement AGA drawing configuration and numbering standards for all structural, mechanical, and piping packages.
- Conduct an evaluation of the structural, mechanical, and piping package designs and any follow-on action and recommendations as required.
- Oversee and inspect the structural, mechanical, and piping construction work to ensure that the infrastructure adheres to AGAG’s requirements with respect to relevant specifications, drawings, and General Arrangements drawings.
- Ensure the installation is presented in a professional and manner and fully functional.
- Ensure reliable processes for managing the technical quality of the Plan of Operations and supporting engineering deliverables.
- Identify and report compliance violations and assist with investigations.
- Build capacity of team members on compliance related matters (e.g., communications regarding bribery/corruption, ethics, conflicts of interest, gifts, etc.).
- Ensure the project meets its environmental, community and other obligations as prescribed in the AGA policy.

Qualifications
Tertiary qualification in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent or Structural Engineering from a recognized institution.
Experiences
- 5 years’ proven experience in working on capital projects >$10m)
- At least 5 years relevant experience in engineering designs process and construction protocols.
- Strong interpersonal, influencing and communication skills.
- Ability to take a business perspective in managing multiple competing priorities and reconciling these with the project’s strategic priorities.
- Demonstrated strategic and analytical thinking.
- Demonstrated capacity to make sound short-term tactical decisions – quickly assembling and interpreting data to successfully action priorities.
- Commercial acumen relevant to the role
- Demonstrated capability in organising work, setting priorities, and exercising sound independent judgement.
