PURPOSE OF THE ROLE:
To assist in the implementation and monitoring of quality assurance and quality control activities for drilling and blasting operations. The role ensures compliance with safety standards, operational procedures, and technical specifications to optimize blasting efficiency and minimize risks. The attendant supports data collection, inspection, and reporting to help maintain high standards of quality and safety in drill and blast activities.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Certificate of Secondary Education or above.
- The incumbent must have a valid Blasting Certificate and a valid Tanzanian driving license.
EXPERIENCE:
- At least two (2) years of experience, preferably in the Drill and Blast section in an open-pit mining environment.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to drive a manual Light Vehicle (LV).
- Ability to perform Quality Assurance and Quality Control (QA/QC) on bulk explosives.
- Understanding of drilling operations and factors affecting hole quality and drilling efficiency.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety procedures.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Basic knowledge of mining operations and site protocols.
- Ability to accurately collect, record, and report data.
MAIN OR KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Ensure the blasting area is properly demarcated and secured prior to charging.
- Safely handle and store explosives on the bench in accordance with safety regulations.
- Verify the dipping angles of drilled holes to confirm compliance with design parameters.
- Prime blast holes accurately with bulk explosives following established procedures.
- Inspect and confirm the initial and final stemming heights during the charging process.
- Ensure proper stemming of blast holes to optimize blast efficiency and safety.
- Provide clear and effective spotting guidance to the stemming loader operator during movement across the charged pattern.
- Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of the charged blast pattern area (housekeeping).
- Assist in the final tie-up of the charged blast pattern prior to initiation.
- Serve as a Blast Guard when required, ensuring safety protocols are followed.
- Perform any other duties as assigned by the supervisor to support drilling and blasting operations.
