SUMMARY/OBJECTIVE OF ROLE:

 The primary purpose of the role is to develop, implement, and manage occupational safety, health, & security policies, procedures, and behavior-based safety, health, & security programs that enable all stakeholders to return home safe and healthy every day from AGA’s mines and facilities.

 

ROLE ACCOUNTABILITIES:

·        Ensure organizational compliance with federal, state, and local safety laws, regulations, codes, and rules.

·        Ensure all HSS processes and procedures are implemented and standardize across Nevada.

·        Maintain accurate records of all necessary training and licensing to function as a signing authority on all S&H matters.

·        Maintain files and records and produce reports that are compliant with federal and state safety and health regulations.

·        Promote visible felt leadership by all levels of the organization.

·        Promote S&H self-leadership and reinforce an individual’s stop work authority within all levels of the organization.

·        Promote behavior-based programs founded on positive reinforcement of safe behaviors and correction of unsafe behaviors.

·        Develop both a formal risk assessment and a field risk assessment program.

·        Develop, monitor and analyze safety performance metrics and trends to drive continuous improvement.

·        Develop, maintain, and update emergency response plans are up to date, and drills are conducted regularly.

·        Responsible to develop, implement and monitor a MSHA new miner training program including site specific safety and health orientations for Nevada Projects.

·        Develop promotional materials to educate all stakeholders in S&H aspects and continuously update and improve as safety protocols evolve.

·        Develop and maintain medical monitoring programs for employees.

·        Develop a Safety Management Information System (SMIS) to track regulatory compliance and facilitate incident trending and identification existing and emerging risks and root causes.

·        Provide S&H leadership training, hazard identification and recognition training, unplanned events training to all levels of the organization and across all functional groups.

·        Provide safety and health, incident prevention and investigation training including root cause analysis for managers and supervisors.

·        Provide hazardous material/right to know training and develop a Material Safety Data management system.

·        Provide site specific training for contractors and monitor their compliance with Company policies and regulations.

·        Provide industrial hygiene monitoring programs for chemicals, air, water, noise, heat.

·        Assist area managers with inspections of ventilation and exhaust equipment, lighting, or other conditions that could affect employee health, comfort, or performance.

·        Assist area managers with inspections to ensure the presence of fire prevention equipment, safety equipment, and first-aid supplies.

·        Assist area managers with inspections of the workplace to assure safe and healthful conditions and to identify controls for hazardous or potentially hazardous conditions or equipment.

·        Performs other duties as required including “on-call” support.

 

EDUCATION & QUALIFICATIONS:

·        Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety, or related field.

·        Certified MSHA instructor status a plus.

·        Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Certified Safety and Health Manager (CSHM) designation is preferred.

 

REQUIRED GENERAL KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE:

·        Minimum ten (10) years in a H&S leadership role within the US mining industry preferably in Nevada

·        Strong background in behavior-based safety theory

·        In-depth knowledge of MSHA regulations and mining safety best practices.

·        Excellent organization skills and attention to detail

·        Proven ability to make sound decisions under pressure

·        Excellent written and verbal communication skills

·        Excellent training and presentation skills

·        Record of achieving best-in-class MSHA Total Recordable Incident Frequency rates at large open pit mines.

TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:

·        General understanding of gold mining and processing engineering principles, practices, and associated risks.

·        Ability to analyze incident statistics for trends to allow proactive mitigation of root cause.

·        Broad range of leadership, managerial and technical skills relevant to small scale surface mining.

·        Sound understanding of the mining value and risk drivers in the business unit.

 

LEGAL REQUIREMENTS:

·        Maintain confidentiality regarding all safety-related incidents, employee records, compliance documents and others as required.

 

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

This is a full-time exempt position. Days and hours of work are typically 4 days (10hr) on 4 days off with a Monday to Thursday or Tuesday thru Friday schedule. As per operational requirements.

COMPENSATION

Base Salary Range $140,000 - $160,000
