SUMMARY/OBJECTIVE OF ROLE:

 

The Permitting Specialist is responsible for executing the strategic permitting plan required for new and existing mining operations. This role ensures compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations and supports the development, submission, and maintenance of environmental and operational permits. The specialist will coordinate with regulatory agencies, internal departments, consultants, and stakeholders to facilitate timely and accurate permit approvals.

 

Role Accountabilities:

  • Develop, prepare, and submit permit applications for mining operations (e.g., surface, and exploration).
  • Maintain compliance with applicable laws and regulations (e.g., NEPA, Clean Water Act, NV state mining laws).
  • Coordinate with regulatory agencies to track permit progress and address questions or concerns.
  • Conduct site assessments and work with environmental scientists, engineers, and legal advisors to gather necessary data.
  • Develop and implement strategic plans to ensure timely permit approvals and avoid delays.
  • Monitor permit deadlines and renewal schedules to ensure continuous compliance.
  • Prepare documentation for public hearings, stakeholder engagement, and environmental impact assessments.
  • Stay current with changes in regulations and industry best practices.
  • Support internal teams (e.g., operations, legal, environmental) by providing guidance on permitting-related matters.
  • Maintain organized records of all permitting documentation and correspondence.
  • Reviewing and evaluating mining plans and designs for compliance with environmental and regulatory requirements.

 

Technical Competencies:

  • Familiarity with software applications such as MS Office (word, excel, PowerPoint, Team, etc.), and geographic information systems like AcrGIS.
  • Capability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, for report preparation, presentations, and interactions with various stakeholders.
  • Ability to adjust to changing regulations and project requirements.

REQUIRED EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor's degree in environmental engineering, mine engineering, biology, environmental science, geology, hydrology, ecology, or a related field.
  • A minimum of two (2) to five (5) years of experience in environmental compliance or permitting within the mining or industrial sectors is preferred.

 

REQUIRED GENERAL KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of environmental regulatory programs, such as the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), Clean Air Act (CAA), Clean Water Act (CWA) and Endangered Species Act (ESA).
  • Experience working with federal and state agencies including the BLM, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Environmental Protection Agency, U.S. Army Corp. Engineers, Neveda Division Environmental Protection, Nevada Division Water Resources, and Nevada Department of Wildlife.
  • General understanding of mine engineering and operations.

 

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

 

This is a full-time Exempt position. Days and hours of work are typically Monday through Friday. Evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand. As per operational requirements.

 

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:

Per operational requirements.

 

COMPENSATION: $80,000 - $110,000
