SUMMARY/OBJECTIVE OF ROLE:
Oversee drilling operations as designed and laid out by the drilling Superintendent. The successful candidate will be responsible for supervising drilling crews (contractors), ensuring the safety and efficiency, maintaining equipment, and delivering drilling targets on schedule and within or below budget with improved sample quality. Provide support to several different departments within AGA (Exploration, Projects, Geology, Hydrology, Environmental and Geomechanical).
Role accountabilities:
- Monitor drilling operations and performance of drilling crews, providing guidance and training as needed.
- Ensure adherence to drilling plans, specifications and regulatory requirements.
- Provide technical guidance when trouble shooting drilling issues to ensure the drill hole is completed to planned depth, include drilling techniques and drilling fluid applications.
- Coordinate drilling related activities to include earthwork, sample pick up and logistics, and ensure adherence to safety, environmental compliance, and regulations.
- Conduct regular inspections of drilling equipment and tools, lay down yards, arrange maintenance or replacement as necessary with coordination of the drilling contractors.
- Lead safety toolbox meetings along with reporting and investigating incidents, and ensure timely communication with health and safety department.
- Ensure QA/QC protocols are followed for sample integrity.
- Ensure drill sites are constructed within design parameters and ready for occupancy.
- Responsible for accurately reporting on status updates of hole conditions, drilling activities, consumable inventory, sample and recovery quality, and any delays to drilling.
- Ensure all down hole surveys are performed correctly.
- Responsible to stake drill pads including: identifying, preparing, and making specific locations on the ground where drilling rigs will be set up to explore or mine, and include staking roads for new construction to ensure compliance with environmental regulations.
Technical Competencies:
- Strong attention to detail and basic mathematical aptitude.
- Comfortable performing measurements and basic calculations as needed.
- Proficiency in using CorePlan, ArcGIS field maps, MS Office, Survey 123, and Oracle/SAP as needed.
Leadership & Management Competencies:
- Ability to oversee direct reports (Contractors).
- Strong awareness of, and ability to manage: safety, health, community, and environmental requirements in the workplace.
- Performs activities with limited supervision while remaining within agreed boundaries of activities, methodologies and company policies & procedures.
- Able to manage costs while achieving desired expected outcomes.
- Fosters a positive team environment and able to function as both a supportive peer and/or a team leader as the project or work program requires.
- Able to collaborate well with others, and willing to act as a mentor to both peers and junior staff in areas of expertise
REQUIRED EDUCATION:
- Minimum of three (3) five (5) years in drilling operations within the mining industry.
- Prior experience in a supervisor or leadership role.
- Valid driver’s license and proficiency in operating 4WD vehicles.
REQUIRED GENERAL KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE:
- Strong knowledge of drilling techniques, equipment and safety regulations.
- Valid Driver’s License to drive company vehicles to and from the project site.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
This is a full-time Exempt position. Days and hours of work are typically 8 days (10hr) on 6 days off with a Wednesday-to-Wednesday rotating days and nights schedule. Additional time may be needed per operational requirements.
COMPENSATION:
Base Salary Range - $95,000 - $115,000
