Position:                      Country Manager

Role Context: AngloGold Ashanti in Guinea seeks to position itself as an industry leader in responsible mining by cultivating mutually respectful relationships with all its stakeholders through constructive and continuous communication and dialogue.
AngloGold Ashanti seeks a turnaround of its Siguiri Mine, which is a joint venture with the Government of Guinea. We are committed to reinstating its status as a modern, efficient, mechanized operation and enabling the mine to deliver on its plans consistently and sustainably by becoming a low-risk yet high-profit operation.  Inherent to the achievement of these objectives is the need to be compliant with national and international laws, and regulatory requirements as well as maintaining a social license to operate.
To support the joint venture between the Government of Guinea and AngloGold Ashanti’s [AGA] business and operations in Guinea, AngloGold Ashanti seeks to recruit a Country Manager for Guinea, based in Conakry, reporting to the Africa Business Function of Anglo Gold Ashanti, to the Vice President Stakeholder Relations, and working closely with the General Manager of the SAG Mine in Siguiri.

Role Purpose:  The Country Manager will provide leadership on matters requiring engagement, communication and constructive dialogue with the government, civil society and other stakeholders for the business sustainability in Guinea. This role will provide leadership on government affairs, policy, and regulatory issues, and also lead engagement with a range of stakeholders, both in government, the business community, the media, and in the broad civil society in Guinea.

The role will support the SAG in engagement with government and wider stakeholders (civil society, embassies etc.) on mining and will provide advice to AGA Business Unit, senior leaders and the SAG site teams.  The role will also take leadership in the development of strategies and implementation plans for addressing business issues in relation to the Guinean Government, civil society counterparts and a broad range of all other relevant stakeholders. The focus of that activity would be the creation, maintenance and strengthening of AGA’s social license to operate in Guinea.

  • Ensure up-to-date socio-political and economic analysis for communication to broader AGA stakeholders.
  • Closely collaborate and support the listening, communications, and branding functions.
