Objective of the role
The incumbent will be the primary point of accountability for ensuring the smooth and compliant operation of the Shared Services Centre (SSC) across the Africa region. The individual will lead issue resolution, performance oversight, regional alignment, and continuous improvement efforts, serving as the key liaison between regional stakeholders and the SSC.
Education & Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; MBA or CPA preferred.
General Knowledge & Experience
- 10+ years in shared services or finance operations.
- 5+ years managing SSC providers and outsourcing transitions.
- 5+ years in the mining industry or a related field in a finance leadership role.
- Relevant Risk management experience
- Deep understanding of regional accounting, compliance, and financial operations.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and IFRS with the ability to apply standards across diverse jurisdictions.
- Familiarity with P2P, budgeting, and local regulations (e.g., tax, payroll).
- Experience in supply chain and HR (payroll) is advantageous.
- Strong knowledge of corporate governance, ethical standards, and industry best practices.
- Up-to-date with trends and legislation impacting finance operations.
- Leadership & People Skills
- Proven leadership in cross-functional, cross-vendor environments.
- Strong change management and stakeholder engagement abilities.
- Experience working in global or matrixed organizations.
- Hands-on experience with SAP is a plus.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Culturally agile with the ability to collaborate across diverse teams.
Role Accountabilities
Transition Management
- Lead end-to-end transition of finance operations from local teams to the SSC provider.
- Own the transition plan, including timelines, risk mitigation, and change management.
- Coordinate with cross-functional teams to ensure business continuity and alignment.
Regional Process Oversight
- Ensure SSC processes meet local requirements for Africa, including regulatory and time zone considerations.
- Monitor and enforce SSC compliance with regional SLAs and service expectations.
SSC Governance and Performance
- Act as the main point of contact for SSC operations in the region.
- Establish governance frameworks to oversee daily SSC activities.
- Set, monitor, and manage KPIs and SLA performance; resolve gaps and escalate as needed.
- Lead recurring business reviews with SSC providers to evaluate service quality, compliance, and improvement areas.
Risk and Escalation Management
- Address escalated compliance or operational issues from SSC vendors promptly.
- Implement formal escalation processes with clear communication to regional and site-level stakeholders.
- Use regional knowledge to identify and mitigate operational risks.
Continuous Improvement
- Drive initiatives to improve SSC efficiency, incorporating automation and feedback.
- Champion process enhancements tailored to regional needs.
- Foster a culture of innovation, ownership, and service excellence.
Remuneration
As per the AGA salary scales.
