The Africa Business Unit manages four operations in Ghana, Tanzania, and Guinea, producing more than 1.1 Moz per year. The Business Unit is seeking an experienced and self-motivated person to join its Human Resources Department.
The Opportunity
Reporting to the VP – Human Resources - Africa, the Director: Human Resources - Iduapriem serves as a strategic HR Business Partner to the Managing Director and the entire Iduapriem Mine site, ensuring the effective management and support of human resources to achieve the site's operational and strategic goals. This role is critical in fostering a productive, safe, and engaged workforce that aligns with the company’s values and business objectives. The HR Director is responsible for advising the Managing Director/General Manager and the site leadership team on all people-related matters and executing global and Business Unit HR strategies that enhance workforce capabilities, ensure compliance with labor laws and industrial relations, and support the company’s growth and sustainability.
This position requires on-site presence. Therefore, the successful candidate will be based at the Mine in Tarkwa, Ghana.
Accountabilities
- Act as a key advisor to the site leadership team, translating business objectives into HR strategies and actions that drive business results.
- Enforce deployment and utilization of HR Information System by all employees. Monitor HR metrics and analyze data to inform decision-making, identify trends, and measure the impact of HR initiatives on business outcomes.
- Lead change management initiatives, supporting the organization through transitions and ensuring employees are engaged and aligned with company goals.
- HR Structure and Budget Implementation: Implement the organizational structure aligned with the Operation Model to deliver the budget and business plan.
- Workforce Planning Collaboration: Collaborate with senior management to forecast and plan future workforce needs.
- Organizational Culture Enhancement: Foster a positive organizational culture through effective communication, recognition programs, and employee engagement initiatives. Driving Global and Business Unit Culture and IDE initiatives and ensuring site-based action plans are being implemented.
- Develop and implement a comprehensive labor relations plans that are aligned with the mine business and human resources strategies and execute plan to support and drive sustainable business performance and improves management-unions relationship and collective bargaining negotiations.
- Ensure compliance with local labor laws and regulations, adapting policies and practices as necessary to mitigate legal risks and uphold ethical standards.
- Identify skill gaps, develop and implement strategies to address business short and longer term talent needs, implementing training programs that enhance workforce capabilities and support career development.
- Identifying Legal Training Needs: Conduct a thorough analysis of the current employment laws/regulatory knowledge gaps within the organization, focusing on operational aspects. This involves consulting with department heads, reviewing recent labour disputes or compliance issues, and staying updated on new laws and regulations that impact the company’s operations.
- Foster a culture of continuous learning and improvement, leveraging best practices and innovative training solutions to enhance employee engagement and productivity
- Provide HR support to site operations, including workforce planning, recruitment, and retention strategies, to ensure the site has the talent required to meet operational goals.
- Implement effective performance management processes that drive high performance and accountability at all levels.
About You

Qualifications
- A bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Industrial Relations, Psychology, or a related field is essential.
- Advanced degrees (such as a master’s degree or MBA) with a focus on Human Resources Management, Labor Relations, or Business Administration are highly desirable and may be preferred.
Experiences
- A minimum of 10 years’ experience 5 of which should be in senior managerial levels with proven experience of effectively leading HR function
- Comprehensive understanding of HR processes and best practices.
- Sound understanding of the organizational HR business value drivers
- Ability to take a whole-of-business view to HR operations and optimization
- Planning, budgeting, forecasting, consultant management, HR policy, and personnel management, legislative compliance
- Culture & Capability management
- Strong analytical and data management skills for accurate HR reporting and decision support. A sound and practical experience with SuccessFactors will be an added advantage.
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills to handle dynamic routines and meet critical deadlines
- Effective communication skills for interfacing with employees and management across operational areas.
