AngloGold Ashanti (Ghana) Limited, Obuasi Gold Mine has been redeveloped to become a modern, efficient and long-term profitable operation. The underground mining operation has been fully mechanized and designed to produce up to an average maximum of 5,000 t/day of ore mined.

ROLE PURPOSE

 

The Electrical Supervisor - Underground reports to the Electrical Superintendent - Underground and is accountable for the monitoring, control of output on underground electrical maintenance and installation to standard through the application of operational policies, processes and procedures to maximize power availability in a sustainable cost-effective manner and minimize operational risks in order to meet the business’ strategic objective.

 

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

 

  • Work according to total quality management principles & ensure zero defect objectives & safety.
  • Adhere to site’s Environmental Management Plan.
  • Implement maintenance and operational activities in accordance with the Government of Ghana conditions of approvals and the site’s Aspect Register related to section.
  • Deliver the Safety Management Plan Element of the Section
  • Ensure compliance to Safety leading indicators.
  • Lead by example to create a safe working environment, where risks are assessed and managed so tasks are performed without risk of injury or harm.
  • Use ‘working elements’ (inspections, audits, JHA, etc.) of the Safety Management System and ensure compliance both individually and team.
  • Assist with timely investigation of all injuries, illness, and incidents with actions plans developed to prevent recurrences.
  • Identify safety training needs and provide safety training to enable personnel to safely perform their designated work.
  • Major Hazard Standards implementation
  • Carry out Positive / Hazards Observation and Reporting
  • Undertake Workplace Visits / Inspections
  • Coordinate the Review of Aspects Register related to section.
  • Gather information for the Electrical Superintendent – underground for reporting performance.
  • Using AGA’s How we Work guidelines, clearly define the roles and accountabilities of subordinates.
  • Support to develop training and development plans and execute same
  • Communicate policies and procedures in a manner to achieve full understanding and compliance.
  • Execute maintenance of all electrical equipment in underground infrastructure (Substations, Medium/Low voltage pumps maintenance, LV pumps installation for underground dewatering, establishing power supply and maintenance on Jumbo, Solo, Diamond drill rigs, compressors, installation of 1000V distribution boards, 1000/240V lighting DB, 1000V jumbo starters and 1000/440 Volts ventilation fans, Maintenance of conveyor and rock breakers, MV voltage switching and breaker maintenance).
  • Conduct reviews of the electrical refurbishment, later maintenance, of the electrical equipment to identify actions for continuous improvement.
  • Organize information for the Electrical Superintendent – Underground to develop condition monitoring routes and checks for infrastructure equipment.
  • Execute refurbishment and maintenance, work checks on a routine scheduled basis.
  • Monitor general physical condition of plant assets and report.
  • Monitor preventive and corrective actions as necessary.
  • Generate work requests in SAP as required for new build/ maintenance planning and scheduling.
  • Ensure routine condition monitoring tasks are performed on all the rotating equipment by data collection using advanced portable data collectors and other tools according to the established schedules and also as per the plant requirements.
  • Monitor information on vibration & other data collected in order to diagnose / troubleshoot rotating machinery problems.
  • Actively participate in maintenance review programmed and Root Cause Failure Analysis process of Electrical equipment as per requirements.
  • Identify, communicate, and implement potential cost reduction initiatives.
  • Propose cost savings projects.
  • Execute work in a timely manner; coordinate refurbishment work contractors to time plan, escalate real or potential delays.
  • Monitor equipment performance on asset health system and take proactive measures to address symptoms.
  • Initiate troubleshooting requirements for electrical faults.
  • Make recommendations for system improvement
  • Stop any electrical equipment operation if there exists a high risk or unsafe to be used.

 

QUALIFICATION, EXPERIENCE AND TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES

 

Qualification   

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering /Technology with minimum of 3 years of relevant experience OR Diploma in Electrical/Electronic Engineering/ Technology with minimum of 5years of relevant experience OR Electrical Technician Part III Certificate with 5 years of relevant experience in electrical engineering operations.

 

Experience

  • A minimum of three (3) years’ experience in an electrical engineering role.

 

Certifications

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license (preferred)
  • Inspecting Engineer Certificate of Competence from the Inspectorate Division of the Mineral Commission (IDMC). (preferred)
