Geita Gold Mining Ltd (GGML) is Tanzania’s leading gold producer with a single operation in Geita Region. PURPOSE OF THE ROLE: 
This role is responsible for providing technical and metallurgical guidance to the plant production function under the leadership of the Process Manager. Key responsibilities include managing the geometallurgy program and metallurgical laboratory, overseeing the water treatment plant, and driving continuous improvement initiatives. Additionally, the role will focus on increasing grade control workload as the mine transitions from surface to underground operations.

 

QUALIFICATIONS: 
•    Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgy and Mineral Processing Engineering.

 

EXPERIENCE:
•    At least 7 years technical experience, including 5 years in a Gold Processing Plant at a Plant Metallurgist or equivalent level.
•    Good experience in geometallurgy with preferably SAB milling circuits, CIL/CIP gold processing operations and Metallurgical laboratory experience.

 


MAIN OR KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Geometallurgy programme (Technical)
•    Provide discipline specific support for Geometallurgy for the purposes of understanding and optimising resource recovery.
•    Develop and implement geometallurgical models to support process optimization and resource planning.
•    Proactively identifying processing inefficiencies and develop optimization opportunities through the implementation of geometallurgical test work programmes. 
•    Collaborate with geology and mining teams to integrate geometallurgical insights into Mine planning.
•    Future programs aimed at beneficiation of refractory ores and/or reagent optimization.
•    Analyse ore characteristics and their impact on recovery, throughput, and operating costs.
•    Manage laboratory activities, including sample preparation, metallurgical testing, and reporting.
•    Ensure the accuracy and reliability of laboratory test results and continuous improvement of lab processes.
•    Coordinate with cross-functional teams to align lab findings with plant operations.
•    Supervise operations at the water treatment plant, ensuring compliance with environmental regulations.
•    Identify and implement best practices to improve water quality and treatment efficiency.
•    Monitor and analyze water treatment data to enhance plant performance.
•    Must have the relevant and adequate technical skills on the communition and hydrometallurgy of gold i.e. crushing, milling, carbon in leach (must be capable of performing plant performance analysis, identify gap         and optimization initiatives across the entire flowsheet) 
•    Prepare technical reports, project updates, and presentations for senior management and stakeholders.


People
•    Fostering a safety-focused culture, ensuring adherence to all health, safety, and environmental protocols.
•    Ensure all projects adhere to safety, quality, and environmental standards.
•    Support on building, developing and leading Geometallurgical skills within the Metallurgy Department.
•    Supervise, mentor, and develop a team of direct reports i.e. junior metallurgists, lab technicians, and water treatment plant operators.
•    Create a collaborative work environment that encourages knowledge sharing and skills development.
•    Conduct quarterly performance reviews, set development goals, and provide constructive feedback to team members.


Schedule
•    Providing resourcing and planning to support of the metallurgical and geometallurgical components of the Geita strategic and business plans.
•    Plan, execute, and monitor metallurgical and water treatment projects from concept to completion.


Costs
•    Manage project budgets, timelines, and resources, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives.


General 
•    Fulfilling the actions and intent of the geometallurgy strategy for Geita. 
•    Lead process improvement projects to increase recovery, reduce costs, and improve operational efficiency.
•    Implement data-driven decision-making and performance tracking for continuous improvement initiatives.
•    Drive root-cause analysis and corrective actions for technical challenges in processing.


ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
•    Provide specific support for geometallurgy to enhance resource recovery.
•    Develop and implement geometallurgical models for process optimization and resource planning.
•    Identify and address processing inefficiencies through geometallurgical test work.
•    Analyze ore characteristics and evaluate their impact on recovery, throughput, and operating costs.
•    Develop programs targeting the beneficiation of refractory ores and reagent optimization.
•    Manage lab activities, including sample preparation, metallurgical testing, and reporting.
•    Ensure laboratory test accuracy and implement continuous improvements in lab processes.
•    Coordinate lab findings with plant operations for alignment.
•    Supervise water treatment plant operations, ensuring environmental compliance.
•    Identify and apply best practices for water quality and treatment efficiency.
•    Monitor and analyse water treatment data to optimize plant performance.
•    Apply technical skills in gold comminution and hydrometallurgy (crushing, milling, and carbon-in-leach).
•    Perform plant performance analysis, identify process gaps, and propose optimization across the flowsheet.
•    Prepare technical reports, project updates, and presentations for senior management and stakeholders.
