ABOUT GEITA GOLD MINING LTD
Geita Gold Mining Ltd (GGML) is Tanzania’s leading gold producer with a single operation in Geita Region. The company is a subsidiary of AngloGold Ashanti, an international gold producer headquartered in Denver, USA. AGA has operations in more than ten countries across four continents. The mine is situated in the Lake Victoria Gold fields of Northwestern Tanzania, only about 120 km’s from Mwanza City and 20 km’s Southeast of the nearest point of Lake Victoria. The company has its main office and operations in Geita, only 5 Km’s west of the fast-growing town of Geita, and a supporting office in Dar es Salaam. PURPOSE OF THE ROLE:
The primary objective of this role is to ensure the system to manage and store Geological Data is accurate, up-to-date, and fully compliant with established Quality Assurance, Quality Control, and Data Management standards. The role plays a key part in supporting the Evaluation Section and the whole Geology Department to achieve their strategic objectives.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Diploma in a field related to Geoscience or ICT.
- Certificate in Geoscience/Mining Field or ICT.
EXPERIENCE:
- Diploma holders: Minimum of 5 years in the mining industry.
- Certificate holders: Minimum of 7 years’ experience in mining industry.
- Experience in Geological Data Management using mining industry preferred systems/software’s.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Proficiency in MS Office and Datamine Fusion Database.
- Knowledge of data analytics tools (e.g., SQL).
- Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality, adapt to change, and take responsibility.
- High level of diligence and integrity.
MAIN OR KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Ensure a safe work environment by adhering to minimum safety standards (PPE, TAKE 5, hazard identification, and reporting).
- Perform all Safety Leading Indicators as per approved schedule.
- Monitor the data capturing process by Exploration, Grade Control, Geotech and technicians where necessary reject invalid data for required correction and provide advises/guidance to the data owner.
- Conduct weekly and monthly database audits/checks to minimize errors and ensure correct, high-quality data.
- Conduct the weekly and monthly database audits/checks as per Geology Data management protocol to minimize and eliminate errors in the database. (The correct data, with correct quality, in the right place, at the right time).
- Conduct quality checks on Exploration and Grade Control electronic data against hard copy for validation, confirms the validity and sign for it. (10% of Exploration and 5% of Grade Control data) as per SOX compliance
- Installation of Geological Database Software’s (Fusion and Datamine) to users’ PC’s and ensure efficient system usage. Similarly conducting periodically software upgrades in liaison with Database Vendors
- Coach and train new Geologists & Technicians on using the Geological Database system/software.
- Timely responding and attending to arising database issues/concerns as encountered/raised by Database users. Communicate with Database vendors on issues that cannot be resolved internally.
- Assist Geologists/Technicians with troubleshooting on data uploads/downloads into Fusion Database.
- Continual fixing of errors in Fusion Database as they are being identified to maintain Data Integrity as per AGA/GGM standard practices
- Validate assay data on receipt and timely import validated data into the Geological database as per Assay data import protocol and run reconciliation of digital copies versus hardcopy as per Database Management protocols.
- Maintain database integrity to ensure timely geological data availability for Grade Control, Resource Modelling, and Exploration activities.
- Ensure all drillholes into which results have been received are AUTHORISED/LOCKED as per SOX requirements
- Recommend continuous improvement initiatives to enhance Fusion Database efficiency.
- Support the Geological Database - Controller 2 with other database-related activities, including system upgrades and developments.
- Store all hard copy and digital assay data securely upon receipt.
