The Opportunity
The Manager, Processing at Geita Gold Mining Limited is a critical leadership role entrusted with the comprehensive management, strategic direction, and operational oversight of our processing plant located in Geita. This role demands a high level of technical expertise backed by extensive experience in mineral processing, combined with strong leadership capabilities to drive plant performance aligned with the company's mission of operational excellence and sustainable mining practices within the Africa Business Unit.
Reporting to senior management, you will be accountable for delivering metallurgical production targets by optimizing plant performance, ensuring safety compliance, managing costs effectively, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement. Your leadership will be pivotal in navigating complex operational challenges and capitalizing on opportunities to enhance productivity and environmental stewardship.
Key Responsibilities:
Safety, Risk, and Compliance:

- Lead by example to embed a strong, proactive safety culture emphasizing Visible Felt Leadership and active engagement with frontline teams.
- Ensure full adherence to statutory health, safety, and environmental regulations and standards, implementing fatal risk management controls across all plant functions.
- Design and drive behavior-based safety programs aimed at the elimination of injuries and occupational illnesses, fostering a workplace where safety is a daily priority.
- Manage comprehensive risk assessments, conduct rigorous safety audits, and lead incident investigations to identify root causes and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Champion material risk management processes and maintain the plant's preparedness for insurance and regulatory audits, ensuring compliance excellence.
- Enhance team competence by promoting a culture of ethics, governance, and compliance through continual training and communication.
- Maintain high standards of housekeeping and regulatory compliance to support an organized and safe working environment.
Technical and Operational Excellence:

- Develop, implement, and continuously refine annual production and budget plans, ensuring alignment with the Life of Mine Plan and broader corporate strategic objectives.
- Monitor key performance indicators including plant throughput, recovery rates, and operating costs, utilizing metallurgical data analytics to drive informed operational decisions that meet or exceed targets.
- Oversee the integrity, accuracy, and robustness of metallurgical accounting systems and data to support reliable reporting and decision-making.
- Implement and promote the adoption of advanced operating strategies incorporating emerging technologies and process innovations tailored to changing ore profiles and production demands.
Process Plant Optimization:

- Maximize plant availability, utilization, and throughput efficiency through proactive maintenance strategies and operational best practices.
- Lead continuous improvement and debottlenecking projects focusing on crushers, mills, roasters, and ancillary systems to enhance capacity and equipment reliability.
- Drive the optimization and innovation of process control systems, including the integration of automation and digital tools to elevate performance and reduce variability.
- Champion initiatives that reduce operating costs while promoting environmental sustainability, aligning with the company’s commitment to responsible mining.
- Develop metallurgical strategies that anticipate variations in future ore characteristics, enabling adaptive processing methods that maximize recovery and material value.
Projects and Change Management:

- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including engineering, maintenance, and finance to identify and execute capital and technical projects that enhance plant capabilities and efficiency.
- Play an active role in project governance processes such as design reviews, resource planning, and delivery assurance to ensure initiatives are completed on time and within budget.
- Lead the seamless integration of new technologies, system upgrades, and process modifications, managing change effectively to minimize operational disruptions.
Leadership and People Management:

- Foster a high-performance culture through effective leadership that encourages collaboration, innovation, and accountability among team members.
- Provide coaching, mentorship, and development opportunities to team members, building capabilities and preparing future leaders through succession planning strategies.
- Champion diversity, inclusion, and wellness initiatives, creating a supportive and engaging workplace culture that respects and values individual contributions.
- Build and maintain strong relationships across departments to align goals and promote shared ownership of operational objectives.
Continuous Improvement and Strategy:

- Promote a culture of continuous improvement utilizing Lean, Six Sigma, or other operational excellence methodologies to drive sustainable productivity gains.
- Identify constraints within the value chain and lead targeted improvement initiatives to eliminate bottlenecks and increase throughput.
- Contribute strategic insights that support the development of long-term plans for operational success within the AFRICA Business Unit.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Bachelor of Science degree in Metallurgical, Chemical, or Mineral Processing Engineering is required; advanced degrees or professional development certifications are advantageous.
- At least 15 years of extensive experience in mineral processing environments, with a minimum of 5 years in senior management positions at large-scale gold processing facilities.
- Demonstrated proficiency in managing the full mining cycle with expertise in metallurgical process optimization, plant operations, and resource management.
- Strong commercial acumen, financial management, and project execution skills essential for balancing operational goals with business priorities.
