Geita Gold Mining Ltd (GGML) is Tanzania’s leading gold producer with a single operation in Geita Region. The company is a subsidiary of AngloGold Ashanti, an international gold producer headquartered in Denver, USA. AGA has operations in more than ten countries across four continents. The mine is situated in the Lake Victoria Gold fields of Northwestern Tanzania, only about 120 km’s from Mwanza City and 20 km’s Southeast of the nearest point of Lake Victoria. The company has its main office and operations in Geita, only 5 Km’s west of the fast-growing town of Geita, and a supporting office in Dar es Salaam. PURPOSE OF THE ROLE:
The purpose of this role is to conduct sampling and drilling activities in Diamond Drill (DD) Core and Reverse Circulation (RC) operations. By applying standard procedures, QA/QC guidelines, and best practices, the role ensures reliable data and achievement of set targets.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Secondary School Education Certificate or equivalent.
- A Diploma in a field related to Geoscience will be an added advantage.
EXPERIENCE:
- Diploma holders: Minimum of 2–3 years’ experience in a geological related activities.
- Secondary Education Holders: Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a geological related activities.
- Experience in Geology QAQC/Geomet activities and other geology-related tasks will be an added advantage.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Proficiency in computer applications (MS Word, Excel, etc.).
- Knowledge of Fusion Database.
- Strong planning, organizing, and coordinating abilities.
- Excellent communication skills.
MAIN OR KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Ensure a safe work environment by adhering to minimum safety standards (e.g., PPE requirements such as gloves and safety glasses, conducting TAKE 5, participating in hazard identification and reporting).
- Conduct Planned Task Observations, Workplace Inspections, and CCVs at drilling sites to confirm compliance with drilling and sampling practices, and propose remedial actions where deviations are observed.
- Plan, organize, coordinate, and prepare samples from drilling quality test works for dispatch to assay laboratories in line with standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Ensure accurate sample collection and labelling at field sites, identifying and rectifying problems in line with sampling and QAQC protocols.
- Prepare required equipment and logistics for drilling quality test works and ensure all equipment is in good working condition.
- Organize and conduct the insertion of appropriate quality control materials in grade control, infill, exploration, truck, grab, and face samples as per SOPs.
- Conduct drilling quality studies and other QAQC analyses, ensuring desired sample recoveries are maintained.
- Analyze received results/Geology Logs, select and prepare Bottle Roll and Multi-Element samples for submission.
- Ensure all sampling and drilling activities are performed to the highest standard in compliance with SOPs.
- Participate in contractor meetings when required and provide professional input.
- Assist the QAQC Supervisor in the preparation of weekly, monthly, and annual reports.
- Carry out any other tasks within the Evaluation section as required.
- Maintain high standards of sample storage and housekeeping at storage facilities in support of the QAQC Supervisor and Senior QAQC Supervisor.
