SUMMARY/OBJECTIVE OF ROLE:
AGA’s Group Strategic Planning team is seeking a Mining Engineering Intern to support key initiatives related to benchmarking operating costs and evaluating mine planning software. This internship will provide hands-on experience in data analysis, strategic mine planning, and technology assessment while exposing the candidate to real-world challenges in gold mining.
Key Responsibilities
- Benchmarking Operating Costs:
- Assist in compiling and analyzing cost data from different types of gold mines (open pit, underground, and mixed operations).
- Compare cost structures based on production profiles, mine scale, and geographical factors.
- Help develop a database of key operating cost benchmarks to support strategic decision-making.
- Mine Planning Software Evaluation:
- Support a case study assessing the performance of emerging mine planning software.
- Compare software functionalities, usability, and impact on strategic mine planning.
- Work with AGA subject matter experts to test workflows and document key findings.
EDUCATION & QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Currently enrolled in a Mining Engineering or closely related program.
REQUIRED GENERAL KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE:
- Strong analytical skills with proficiency in Excel
- Basic understanding of mine planning software (e.g., Whittle, Deswik, MineSight, Datamine, or similar).
- Interest in operational cost modeling and technology assessment.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work independently in a dynamic team environment.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
This is a full-time (temporary) position. Monday through Thursday in Office, Friday work from home. As per operational requirements.
COMPENSATION:
Hourly: $39 per hour
