SUMMARY/OBJECTIVE OF ROLE:

 

To conduct portions of Geotechnical Engineering work for a larger project under the guidance of a principal geotechnical engineer.

Geotechnical Specialist for this role is limited to all mining related Hydrology, Rock mechanics, Soil mechanics and Engineering Geology matters, excluding tailings.

 

ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Establish and maintain processes to provide a safe and healthy workplace for all employees and external service providers undertaking work within area of accountability, by identifying and interpreting safety risks and pro-actively resolving emerging issues.
  • Lead an effective geotechnical team in doing the data collection and management for the project.
  • Build and maintain effective collateral and cross functional working relationship.
  • Develop and manage laboratory/field testing and data collection programs.
  • Provide assurance on the data validation work.
  • Deliver technical content on ground characterization data for geotechnical studies.
  • Monitor the effectiveness of project activities and improvements.
  • Develop reports to show work requirements and progress.
  • Conduct specific technical investigations as part of a larger geotechnical investigation.
  • Analyze test work results and pass analysis to the designing geotechnical engineer.
  • Visit test work facilities and engineering design companies as a company representative to monitor progress, ensure AGA standards are being applied.
  • Ensure QA/QC standards are applied during test work.
  • Provide “direct output support” to Principal Geotechnical Engineer leading the design work where there is no Senior Project Geotechnical Engineer.
  • Perform admin duties for payment of service providers.

 

 Technical Competencies:

  • Software skills including Roc science programs, Unwedge, Mine Planning Software (Vulcan/Deswik) Understanding of mine planning process.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret geotechnical and monitoring data.
  • Good written and verbal communication.

 

EDUCATION & QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s degree in engineering Geology, Geotechnical Engineering or similar

 

REQUIRED GENERAL KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE:

Typically, minimum of 3 years’ experience and demonstrated technical capability and knowledge of open pit and/or underground mining geotechnical design and implementation.

 

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are typically Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 5pm. Evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand. As per operational requirements.

 

COMPENSATION:

Base Salary Range $76,113.68 - $108,733.83
